#494026 Congratulations to Glenbrook North for a Historic Accomplishment!

Posted by parrotz on 23 June 2007 - 09:36 PM

this same argument plays out over and over again every time a team from a school that has historically been successful/has a lot of resources/etc. accomplishes an impressive feat. honestly, we all know what we're going to say/hear. lets fast forward to the end when some people have made fools of themselves and the original point of the thread is re-introduced. congratulations to matt and stephanie on a phenomenal season capped off by an unbelievable streak and two national championships, you're both excellent debaters (my ohfer record against you yells that at me loud and clear) and nothing anyone says about you takes away that fact. congrats again.

#422398 Can the Bears take the Super Bowl?

Posted by parrotz on 22 January 2007 - 06:39 PM

i'm not sure why rex grossman is being considered as such a big factor. against the saints, the bears strategy was to keep him conservative and prevent interceptions, which he did. the key to the game will be the jones/benson combo. Against the 31st ranked run defense, benson pounded them out and jones put on a clinic. they are now facing the 32nd ranked run defense on a field that is perfect for thomas jones to run on. as for manning, i agree with davidzavac. drew brees has definitely been the best quarterback in the league this year, not to mention his ability to play well under pressure. while not up to the level of the colts, the saints receiving corps is extremely solid. charles tillman and nathan vasher both stepped up and shut them down with only a couple key exceptions. additionally, the bears front 7 is second to none. even in the absence of tommie harris, the defensive line and linebackers consistently pressured brees, including forcing two intentional grounding calls and several bad passes. finally, the bears offensive line performed at an elite level against the saints. a repeat of that game will leave the colts d-line in the dust. in the end, i'll call the bears on top in a high scoring game.

#247283 utilitarian v moral

Posted by parrotz on 18 January 2006 - 01:14 PM

Utilitarianism is a moral philosophy... so you could just perm and do both.

the "moral" impacts that they were talking about were most likely things like racism, impacts with a smaller body count but large deontic possibilities.

#213943 Skinner Topicality

Posted by parrotz on 27 November 2005 - 04:30 PM

T- Reasonable Expectation of Privacy.

The Skinner decision only allows for blood and urine tests on train workers after a major accident, and it cites statistics that show that most accidents are caused by intoxication. Since they shouldn't be on anything while operating or working on a train, it is reasonable to perform these tests in this specific context. Also, you should take a closer look at the advantages to this case, because there can't be any serious objection to this ruling that culminates in anything more than a bar fight.

another handy thing to do in cross-x is to read their evidence and point out flaws and inconsistencies. try and find alternate causalities or just prove that the card doesnt say what its supposed to.
