    Article on Running Tournaments

A few mathematically inspired ideas on running tab more efficiently and fairly, in the National Journal of Speech and Debate. I'm happy to clarify or provide details for programming software if anyone is curious. Cheers!

Why we're doing side assignment wrong

I did a bit of math on it, and holy smokes, we're making it way harder to pair prelims than it has to be. http://art-of-logic.blogspot.com/2018/05/why-debate-tournaments-have-been-doing.html

    Looking for a programmer

Is there any computer programmer out there who would be interested in working with me on developing a tab program? I don't have any background in programming, but I'm good at math and figured out: an algorithm to assign sides that will even pair a round robin on-the-fly an algorithm that would allow ALL debate judges to be assigned into one pool, but that preferentially assigns each judge to their best division (or second-best division if they're ineligible to judge any more in their best) an algorithm that creates more balanced pairings I posted these ideas for free: if anyone wants to run with them, go for it. But I'd also be happy to collaborate with someone directly. TRPC is showing its age; someone needs to write a new program. It might as well incorporate some new ideas.
