  1. Hello there, I've been debating for 2 years now, but come from a team that has little to no coaching staff for policy (Our squad is mostly LD and Public Forum), so a lot of formalities and small execution tactics and styles are never explained really to us well. That being said, next year will be my first year taking on the role of the 2AR - Note, I run kritikal race affs every round What makes a good 2AR? How should the structure of a 2AR look like? Case on top? Bottom? Should I spend a lot of time on framework vs case (assuming fw is read) Just general things really Any advice or general execution tips at all would be greatly appreciated. I understand, a lot of it depends on the round itself. Thanks
  2. Hello So as the title suggests, I run kritiks. I know that the alternative is always the weakest part of the kritik and often time is vague. I have been in rounds where the judge voted my team down for going for the kritik in the 2NR, but my mentor also told me to never kick the alt. So under what situation should I kick the alt and let's say go for the link turn? Thank you
  3. So I'm going into my second year of LD, where I'll be debating mainly on the national circuit. I'm aiming to break a few times, if not fairly consistently, at bid tournaments next year. I have a few strategy questions that I forgot to ask at camp, so hopefully some people here could help me out. 1. How much line-by-line should the 2AR consist of? More specifically, how should I determine which offense to extend from the 1AR and which offense not to go for? 2. I know a lot of people have different conceptions on what an overview is, but if you are highlighting key issues in the round in an overview (i.e. "okay, so the role of the ballot debate is the highest layer, then the turns on the AC come next...") should you make the complete argument for why you are winning the role of the ballot debate and why your opponent isn't in the overview, or should you cover that on the line-by-line? 3. Let's say the neg goes for a 1-off K and only makes some small cross applications to the AC, and otherwise leaves the AC untouched (or a similar scenario). When extending conceded AC offense/framework ev, how exactly should I go about it? Should I just extend it without giving an implication besides why it links to the FW? I've done this before (hence the scenario above) and it seemed a little weird just extending warrants and saying "oh and this links to the FW" 4. When you are meeting the neg ROTB (and you o/w neg offense to it/turn neg offense), should you still extend the aff ethical framework? 5. How exactly should you answer a role of the ballot when you don't have a clear counter role of the ballot or cards to support it?

  6. This is probably stupid, but what do I need to do to successfully go for T in the 2NR? Like, how do I go from a shell to talking for 5 minutes about it? Please guide me to a thread that answers this if there is one, I searched but could not find one. In particular I'm thinking of running is T - Education where education must be strictly curriculum. I know that people don't go for T most of the time, but I just want to have the option to if I need to.
