    political capital

Hi - I am confused on the set up of a political capital arg on the neg and on the aff. What would the link and internal link be for neg and for aff? Could I cut cards saying political capital is key for immigration reform or generically for any policy? Or should it be that political capital is bad or eroding congressional power etc. I'm cutting a politics core file. Thanks!

    Midterms

Hey Cross-X community, how many of you are running midterms and what are your thoughts on it? Also, what are your thoughts on the specific links? I think the best internal link is preventing a GOP super majority, but I'm not sure how strong the link chain is.

  10. Did Planet Debate let you down this weekend? Does Planet Debate let you down every weekend? Are you disappointed when you pay for a 90 page file and over 50 of the pages are just Latin American Relations impacts that someone copy & pasted from last year's campfiles (that you don't even really have an internal link to)? Well, here at debatePTX we promise not to let you down (...well... at least this weekend). TOMORROW, Friday January 16th, We will be releasing a new file with plenty of updates, thumpers, aff answers, and even a new scenario or two. If Planet Debate has left you SOL this weekend, or if you just want a high-quality file of recent evidence for your first tournament of the New Year, make sure to sign up below to be alerted when our file comes out tomorrow AM. 11. Hi cross-x.com I'm a moderator over at /r/Debate, reddit's biggest forensics forum. We're always looking for more policy debaters to check us out, so we're trying to expand our resources for policy. Arguably our best resource for any competitor is our Debate AMA series. For non-redditors, AMA's (Ask Me Anything) are user-driven interviews in which guests answer questions directly from comments on a subreddit. Guests on /r/Debate have included prominent authors on various debate topics, as well as big figures in the forensics community like NSDA director J. Scott Wunn. In the past, we've had domestic-surveillance themed AMA's for CX debaters. Here is one from a former counter-terrorism intel. analyst. But as you could see if you followed the link, the discussion did not see many actual policy debaters. So I'm here to cordially ask you all to visit our next AMA that might be relevant to your debates. In the first half of January (a hard date is yet to be decided), /r/Debate will host Stephen Sestanovich, CFR Senior Fellow for Russian and Eurasian Studies. Before Sestanovich picked up his jobs at CFR and Columbia University, he was the US Ambassador-at-large to the states of the former Soviet Union for the Clinton administration. You probably have a card written by him somewhere. The AMA announcement thread is here. This obviously helps PF debaters on their Russia topic, but I hope it could also help all of you with the wide-ranging debate that is CX. Hopefully you'll give us a shot. Thanks, /u/thankthemajor

    Thursday File 1-30

File Name: Thursday File 1-30 File Submitter: thedudelacan File Submitted: 30 Jan 2014 File Category: Thursday Files Resolution: Latin America Politics for this week is a bit murky, mostly from a STOU that focused on executive orders rather than legislation. This week's file includes Trade Promotion Authority as the primary DA. TPA is still possible, but Obama didn't do himself any favors by barely mentioning fast track in his SOTU speech, thus the uniqueness is not as strong as it was last week. While strong arguments against passage of TPA, especially since Harry Ried came out against the legislation yesterday. Immigration remains a strong option and there is momentum to pass. Although Obama didn't provide much support in the STOU address,, the House Republicans realize that passing some kind of immigration reform may be necessary for midterm elections. You should look out as to what happens later today regarding the House Republican's announcement regarding their immigration objectives. This may have an impact on the DA's uniqueness. Iran is possible, but the uniqueness evidence may be too good. There doesn't seem to be much hope for a vote to happen. Other possibilities including Debt Ceiling and Minimum wage are included, but do not seem to be viable possibilities for this week. This file was completed by Donny Peters, Assistant Director of Forensics at California State University-Fullerton. Donny has coached successful CEDA/NDT teams at the novice, JV and Open levels. He has over 15 years of experience in the activity. 15. How exactly do politics disads with the scenario of "the plan will cause GOP/Dem backlash" work? (i.e. how does it create an impact of nuke war, or something like that). Is this scenario any different than the political capitol scenario?

  20. Whenever I read online about Politics DAs, I always find that people bash on them for some reason, and from what I understand, Politics DAs are somehow different than other DAs. How are Poltics DAs different from "regular" DAs, and why are they sometimes looked down upon? Also, I came across this page, and I don't understand the rationale behind these reasons: http://learnpolicydebate.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/reasons-why-the-politics-disadvantage-is-the-worst-disadvantage-in-policy-debate/ If anybody could help me understand, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  21. Hey oh! I was wondering if someone could assist me in finding a card. I'm framing an argument that talks about the destructive nature of partisanship and was wondering if anyone had any sources or cards that can discuss the impact of American partisanship. Please and Thank You!
  22. So I have a tournament this weekend and was wondering if someone could give me a list of all the unique politics da's that are going on right now for preparation purposes. I know cybersecurity, tpa, keystone(?), and iran sanctions. Are there any others?

File Name: Thursday File, 4/10/20104 File Submitter: binghamtondebate File Submitted: 10 Apr 2014 File Category: Thursday Files Resolution: Latin America This Thursday file includes a whole new scenario on the Middle East Peace Process as well as an Immigration Reform DA. In addition, it includes updates on patent reform, minimum wage, tpp, and nsa. As a bonus the file includes a Delay CP (which will solve for all the politics scenarios since most votes are coming up within the next week or so) as well as a DeDev impact turn frontline (since a lot of politics impact scenarios are the economy).
