    You're Welcome

It's here... EDIT: if someone could move this into disads that would be great, I totally posted in the wrong section. Trump DA.docx

    Trade

Hey, I'm looking for affs, CP's, or DA's, I'm not really into running fancy K's (*gasp*), but I do have a pretty big collection of weird K's, (Tao, Astropol, Buddhism , etc.) PM me if you are willing to trade.

    Midterms

Hey Cross-X community, how many of you are running midterms and what are your thoughts on it? Also, what are your thoughts on the specific links? I think the best internal link is preventing a GOP super majority, but I'm not sure how strong the link chain is.
  8. Hey oh! I was wondering if someone could assist me in finding a card. I'm framing an argument that talks about the destructive nature of partisanship and was wondering if anyone had any sources or cards that can discuss the impact of American partisanship. Please and Thank You!

What makes it a K, and not a DA?

Sorry for all my questions. Thanks so much for your answers to these posts -- they've been tremendously helpful. I've been reading a lot about realism and the threat-con K recently, and I'm realizing that I don't understand what makes a critique a critique. Here's my understanding of how a threat-con K typically works: A. Link: realism bad because you create enemies when you call them enemies (self-fulfilling prophecies). E.g. moving troops near a supposed adversary turns them into an adversary even if they previously weren't because they have to act defensively. B. Impact: everyone dies. C. Alternative: stop viewing countries as categorically "good" or "bad" -- remove "ally" and "enemy" labels. Here's what I don't get... How is that not just a disadvantage or a counterplan? Can't I achieve the same thing by saying: Disad: calling X country an enemy turns them into an enemy when they're actually not one, which links to everyone dying. I read the following in William Bennett's 1996 Rostrum article "An Introduction to the 'Kritik'": But how do you divorce assumptions and policy implications? In a K, we care about the assumption only because of its impact (isn't the format of a K supposed to be link/impact/alternative?)... so how can we say that a K is only about core assumptions? And by saying that a K doesn't assume the burdens of a DA, isn't that just trying to be lazy about writing what's actually a DA? Thanks in advance for clarifying. It's a big help.

    Creative DAs

Hey guys, first post. I'm a novice that did well this season, and I normally debate up. Now I'm going back to just a novice tournament. I have written 2 da's that I doubt any of the novices I will be debating have seen. Is this a good idea? Or should I just stick with regular DAs(Terror, Pres power)?

    Solar Flared Da Ideas

I came up with the idea late in the season and was wondering if anybody else had used solar flare as a da and if they had success with it.

    DA Alternative

ok, so this is probably a supes stupid question, but would a non-unique da with an alternative (framed like a K) be legit? Or would you just have to concede presumption, lay out impacts of the squo and plan, and run a cp?

Links to Bernie Sanders bad DA

I am cutting a Bernie Sanders election da and im trying to think of links to how bernie sanders could win. i have already thought of drones and racism as a link and that is the only one i have. also would this work as a performance solvency deficit?
  19. hey, I was just wondering if there were any generic DA's that any of you ran for cases you don't have specific evidence on
  20. Can you have more than one link inside of a Disadvantage?
  21. Did Planet Debate let you down this weekend? Does Planet Debate let you down every weekend? Are you disappointed when you pay for a 90 page file and over 50 of the pages are just Latin American Relations impacts that someone copy & pasted from last year's campfiles (that you don't even really have an internal link to)? Well, here at debatePTX we promise not to let you down (...well... at least this weekend). TOMORROW, Friday January 16th, We will be releasing a new file with plenty of updates, thumpers, aff answers, and even a new scenario or two. If Planet Debate has left you SOL this weekend, or if you just want a high-quality file of recent evidence for your first tournament of the New Year, make sure to sign up below to be alerted when our file comes out tomorrow AM. Elections 1NR

Hello, my partner wants me to take the elections disadvantage in the 1NR at our first league tournament this weekend. This is my first real tournament in varsity (even though that doesn't mean much in our league). I know what the elections disadvantage is, but how would I structure my 1NR? Thank you.

    DA Evidence

Hi, So I'm writing a neg to an aff for state that basically promotes ocean based STEM education and I'm having a little trouble finding evidence for 2 of the off case positions I'm thinking of reading that I think would be particularly effective, which are a Wage Competition and a Foreign Nationals Turn. The Wage DA is basically that the 1ac needs to employ more skilled professionals to teach its increase in STEM programs, which actually takes them away from the labor market for green-businesses and the link. I have UQ for wage inflation low now but I just need that link ev. For the foreign nationals, I haven't been able to find a card that says STEM will prevent foreign nationals from getting visas because employers won't be able to prove that there aren't equivalently skilled US workers and evidence that these visa programs are key to transnational cooperation. I've searched for this but can't find any specifically relevant articles. I'd appreciate any help!

  25. Whenever I read online about Politics DAs, I always find that people bash on them for some reason, and from what I understand, Politics DAs are somehow different than other DAs. How are Poltics DAs different from "regular" DAs, and why are they sometimes looked down upon? Also, I came across this page, and I don't understand the rationale behind these reasons: http://learnpolicydebate.wordpress.com/2012/03/31/reasons-why-the-politics-disadvantage-is-the-worst-disadvantage-in-policy-debate/ If anybody could help me understand, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
