    Lay Judges

At the last tournament I went to my partner and I lost to a lot of shitty teams. Not because we didn't know what we were doing. We one the flow on every debate but we ended up going 1-3 in prelims. Last week, everyone on our team was telling us to work on being better technical debaters. My partner and I switched to paperless and we got a lot better technically and were more organized. But our judge for the second round had never done cx in his life and it was his first time judging, our judge for the third round was an ex-lder, and our judge for the fourth round was an ex pf-er who though I said the f-word when I was actually saying Foucault. How do we convince lay judges to vote for us when they don't understand what's really happening?
  2. I apologize if I've been posting a lot of threads! I'm still brooding over a tournament from the weekend, and several of my judges (and even my sibling oh my goodness) have been telling me that I need to organize my rebuttals. (in fact i think that's why i lost my last round-- even if i won in my heart lmao,, :'(( ) So how does one have more organized rebuttals? Does it come with practice and with better flows? Thank you in advance!
  3. Hello there, I've been debating for 2 years now, but come from a team that has little to no coaching staff for policy (Our squad is mostly LD and Public Forum), so a lot of formalities and small execution tactics and styles are never explained really to us well. That being said, next year will be my first year taking on the role of the 2AR - Note, I run kritikal race affs every round What makes a good 2AR? How should the structure of a 2AR look like? Case on top? Bottom? Should I spend a lot of time on framework vs case (assuming fw is read) Just general things really Any advice or general execution tips at all would be greatly appreciated. I understand, a lot of it depends on the round itself. Thanks
