  1. I would like to get a new laptop for debate in the relatively near future. This year I debated with an HP Pavilion dv7 which has a 17 inch screen and weighs just over 8 pounds. It did the job, but it's such a hassle for a sub-par computer. I am more interested in PCs than Macs, simply because I'm used to them and I know they can do the job at a lower cost. Ideally, a new computer would be under 1k or just above, and the screen would be under 17 inches (mine right now is just too huge and it barely squeezes into my backpack) and it would weigh less than 8 pounds. Other than that, I don't really have any preferences. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. UPDATE: I ended up getting the Dell XPS 13 (non-touch) for my birthday and it is great!
  2. I want to construct my first Kritik 100% from my own cuts and whatnot. Does anyone know anything good authors/sources to start on the construction of a security kritk (AC portrays china as more of a threat than it realistically is in order to justify almost limitless action + need to reevaluate how we understand politics and threats to prevent actual actual escalation). Do I have a proper conception of the kritik? Also- I have heard that Zizek is a fun/interesting kritik to make- would this 1) Be easier and 2) be more competitive as a K?
  3. So I'm reading: The Tragedy of Great Power Politics by John Mearsheimer, And I know Realism Good/Inevitable is a popular AFF argument to Security Ks. But I'm wondering if there is a way to make Realism Good a K argument? Any ideas?
  4. I have seen this term/k brought up a lot, and what I understand from it is that: "Policy making & our world is too complex for crazy link chains to be probable or waste time on." It seems to make sense to me, and looks like a good way to reject crazy disads. But, I dont understand its operation as a K?
  5. sos whats the guam aff- how do I respond to it?
  6. So a friend and I recently moved into policy, and ran truth testing and dense ethics this past weekend, wrecking people on the flow, though only at a local tournament. What do more veteran policy debaters (who understand LD stuff) consider of this? Is it legitimate? It seems to be winning ballots, and hilariously throwing opponents off guard, but we're still working on it
  7. Has anyone starting a running list off known camp affs on this topic?it would gladly help if you could share im kinda out of the loop rn
  8. Alright, so as we all know policy debate in Texas is different, increasingly so in the UIL and TFA circuits. But unless you are from Texas you probably don't know the difference between UIL and "Crazy UIL". Basically many west Texas debaters go to camp where they learn these "rules", such as: Counterplans must solve for all harms of the Affirmative case. T's must have in round abuse implications. You must disclose your case to the negative team before the 1AC And so on. They look at my partner and I like we are crazy if we don't fit in this box, so my question to you is how do you refute these to a judge when they present these "rules"?

Can someone give me the thesis of this kritik? Is it saying that the USE of the state is bad because there is ignored oppression under the state- or is it an argument about international action? I know tuck and yang are popular authors. What would the responses be to this argument/what the ballot comes down to?
  10. I've been looking a lot into kritiks and was curious how they would do in PF. I know for sure that I want to run a Patriarch or Fem IR K and Freire one on a different case. I've already found previously made Ks for each one, but I'm not exactly sure to cut them and make them effective for PF.
  11. I'm trying to start expanding my knowledge on the different form of kritiks. One that i'm not being able to really process is the security K. I was wondering if anyone would be able to explain the k to me or provide some cards to use in one?
  12. Logan High Schoo (Utah) l is looking to hire judges in for the Berkeley tournament in CX, LD and PF. Pay per round negotiable. Let me know if you are interested. Can just message me on here. Thanks!
  13. So, I want to make an economic aff that argues we need to increase and reform our current business plan with China. However, the BIT essentially does this anyways- and its supposed to be "in thew works/close to passing." Is there any way aorund this? Maybe my aff extends the bit? Encourages the bit? reforms the bit?
