  1. really interested in reading this, can someone hook a brutha up with some lit?
  2. Sorry for all my questions. Thanks so much for your answers to these posts -- they've been tremendously helpful. I've been reading a lot about realism and the threat-con K recently, and I'm realizing that I don't understand what makes a critique a critique. Here's my understanding of how a threat-con K typically works: A. Link: realism bad because you create enemies when you call them enemies (self-fulfilling prophecies). E.g. moving troops near a supposed adversary turns them into an adversary even if they previously weren't because they have to act defensively. B. Impact: everyone dies. C. Alternative: stop viewing countries as categorically "good" or "bad" -- remove "ally" and "enemy" labels. Here's what I don't get... How is that not just a disadvantage or a counterplan? Can't I achieve the same thing by saying: Disad: calling X country an enemy turns them into an enemy when they're actually not one, which links to everyone dying. I read the following in William Bennett's 1996 Rostrum article "An Introduction to the 'Kritik'": But how do you divorce assumptions and policy implications? In a K, we care about the assumption only because of its impact (isn't the format of a K supposed to be link/impact/alternative?)... so how can we say that a K is only about core assumptions? And by saying that a K doesn't assume the burdens of a DA, isn't that just trying to be lazy about writing what's actually a DA? Thanks in advance for clarifying. It's a big help.
  3. Ok, so I currently debate in a region which is not too open to progressive arguments, so I was wondering how to explain why Ks and K affs are legitimate. My reasoning for Ks is that because fiat is illusory, the judge should vote on real-world benefits first (such as educational value), and that the opponent's plan inherently contains wrong/immoral assumptions about the world which affect the real world and the views of the debaters/judges in the room and future debaters/judges that hear the aff's ideas if the aff is not shown that their ideas are wrong through a neg ballot. Is there anything else I need to explain, as it seems that if I only say what's written above, the aff can easily argue that they don't actually support the ideas/assumptions found in the resolution and are instead bound to them by the resolution? I don't understand how K affs are legitimate myself, so if someone could explain why the aff doesn't have to uphold the resolution and can kritik it, that would be much appreciated.

    PoMo?

What is PoMo? I've always thought it meant performance aff but if not actually certain
  5. I'm looking for a Whiteness Kritik, not anti-blackness or afro pez, thanks.
  6. Hey y'all so I'm doing a report on Nietzsche in my debate class and I need a segment on explaining how to debate it as the Aff. Any suggestions as arguments against a Nietzsche suffering K?
  7. So one question that I had when I watched an out-round involved a team reading a K of proliferation, and the aff conceding no impact / no internal link to prolif and then acted as though it no linked out of it. Is that a legit thing to do? It sounds sketchy
  8. Hello! I'd like an explanation of these two concepts and how they relate to Heidegger's concept of dasein, please. I'm reading him rn, and it is a really difficult concept for me to grasp, seeing as for some reason, whenever I look up "temporality vs temporality", literally no website offers a good, concise, definition. (I'm looking for a paraphrase, too. Please don't just respond with Heidegger's definiton of both). Thanks. Edited for language.
  9. can someone explain what a nietzche kritik is saying?
  10. Hey everyone, I was wondering if someone could give me a pretty thorough explanation of nietzsche diceroll? I am a little confused by the idea of how a diceroll solves with the whole affirmation of chance, what ressentiment really is, will to power and truth, and also any tips that you have. Are there any tips or important things to know when running nietzsche? I sincerely appreciate any help.
  11. To my knowledge, Cuomo argues that systemic violence should be a prior consideration to larger impacts by saying that solving for everyday and ongoing violence we can prevent that from snowballing to trigger extinction level impacts. (I've heard in passing of this being applied to econ decline decline type impacts a bit) I'd like to get a more diverse argument base on this issue specifically, so I'd like to get some less common cards (or even authors) that speak to this issue. Thanks
  12. Now, I know this is pretty absurd.. but how do I answer this K?
  13. I've found some interesting literature criticizing the idea of using science for diplomacy as well as some literature criticizing the specific term "science diplomacy" as well as some literature criticizing the concept of diplomacy in general. I've been toying with the idea of trying to produce a full fledged file on this subject, but don't want to waste time researching this if there isn't adequate demand. Please give me your opinions on these questions, and feel free to ask questions or make comments in this thread. Keep in mind that I'm only gauging interest at this stage, there is not yet any completed file. Please keep your answers as accurate as possible. It might be tempting to use this poll in an effort to motivate me to produce the file faster or to lower my prices. But I won't create this file unless I feel that I have adequate time to invest in it and I will be able to make a reasonable amount of money from my efforts, so any manipulations will likely backfire. This isn't a commitment and I urge you not to treat it like one. A rough guess will do. Thanks for your feedback.
  14. Can someone explain all the different types of fem Ks? Like fem ir, ecofem, etc.
  15. Hey does anybody have a necropolitics K. I'll trade you for it, I have quite a few things to trade for it.
  16. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for any obscure kritikal affs, right now I am trying to come up with something along the lines of lgbtq+ migrants.
  17. One of my debater buds told me it was severing out of the timeframe because they don't pass at the same time and also made the Alt and plan noncompetitive, but I wouldn't qualify him as a reliable source.
  18. When I was forming an answer to Alt doesn't solve for the K, I came to thinking, "Does this discourse doesn't solve argument apply to the 1AC?" Because the 1AC is engaging in discourse, so that must mean that the 1AC also does not solve. Is this right, or am I extending this beyond regular perceptions? Or is there something that says that philosophical discourse is ineffective and policy discourse, and passing of the 1AC, solves?

    NEED KATO

I don't care if its camp or not I just need some cards from it to see if it fits under something I'm going to run or not.
  20. Do y'all have any idea what Kritiks will be good next year? I want to get to know one very well for next year, and I figure that if I start learning and reading now I will be much better off than if I only read over the summer.

    Planless Aff?

So, I compete in a primarily stock/comms area and am interested in running a K-Aff. I found one that I like but it doesn't have a plan. I'm sure this is a novice question but how would I go about running a case without a plan? Also, how do I defend T? How does the USFG substantially reduce anything?
  22. Can someone explain to me what this K says?
  23. What ground will the neg have for next year's education resolution? I know that there's a lot of ground for kritiks, but what about regular impacts, disadvantages, and counterplans? Is next year's topic debatable in an area that has mainly stock issues judges?
  24. Hello So as the title suggests, I run kritiks. I know that the alternative is always the weakest part of the kritik and often time is vague. I have been in rounds where the judge voted my team down for going for the kritik in the 2NR, but my mentor also told me to never kick the alt. So under what situation should I kick the alt and let's say go for the link turn? Thank you
  25. What's a good generic Neg strat against K Affs for the China resolution? As a mainly self taught policy debater, I have no idea what are good strats against affs like Pan, Queer China, etc.
