    How should I answer Kritiks?

I recently searched on the Internet how to answer Kritiks, and it seems that I am supposed to answer them by using POSTAF. (Perm, Offense, Solvency, Theory, Alt fails, Framework.) My question is: if I hit a Neoliberalism K, can't I just read some Neolib good cards as my aff response? And if I hit Capitalism, can't I just say "Cap Good"? Also, I'd like to know how to tangle the Neg with having to answer the K and not kick out of it. *How do you perm a K? I just thought that was a CP thing.

How to Write an amazing K

So, I've been working on writing a K for a couple months now for next year. I already have the basic stuff that makes it a runnable K, a good 1NC Shell, basic AT and AT Perms, a handy-dandy framework, and block extensions. This is good, but what can I do to make it great?

What makes it a K, and not a DA?

Sorry for all my questions. Thanks so much for your answers to these posts -- they've been tremendously helpful. I've been reading a lot about realism and the threat-con K recently, and I'm realizing that I don't understand what makes a critique a critique. Here's my understanding of how a threat-con K typically works: A. Link: realism bad because you create enemies when you call them enemies (self-fulfilling prophecies). E.g. moving troops near a supposed adversary turns them into an adversary even if they previously weren't because they have to act defensively. B. Impact: everyone dies. C. Alternative: stop viewing countries as categorically "good" or "bad" -- remove "ally" and "enemy" labels. Here's what I don't get... How is that not just a disadvantage or a counterplan? Can't I achieve the same thing by saying: Disad: calling X country an enemy turns them into an enemy when they're actually not one, which links to everyone dying. I read the following in William Bennett's 1996 Rostrum article "An Introduction to the 'Kritik'": But how do you divorce assumptions and policy implications? In a K, we care about the assumption only because of its impact (isn't the format of a K supposed to be link/impact/alternative?)... so how can we say that a K is only about core assumptions? And by saying that a K doesn't assume the burdens of a DA, isn't that just trying to be lazy about writing what's actually a DA? Thanks in advance for clarifying. It's a big help.

    Heidegger

Alright, To start, I'm a novice. One of my varsity members gave me a Heidegger file, and I have no idea. I've gathered bits and pieces, "everything has importance because it exists," "commodification is wrong,". But I'm still confused. Can anyone get me an EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE guide to Heidegger? Other questions: What exactly is the alt for this, and how does it work? In a world where we don't reduce things for our own usage, would we still be living primitively? -Is commodification not required to get to where we are today? Thanks a ton.

    Best K's for the 1-Off K?

So, I'm going to a progressive tournament this weekend (for the first time in forever, the stock judges are slowly strangling me), and I'm really interested in the 1-Off K strat. My sibling said that I should focus on Heidegger and Biopower, but I was wondering what else would make for a good 1-Off K (preferably something that I can make a file off of relatively quickly/not Nietzsche or Schopey). I'm not really interested in winning at this tournament-- more experimentation and testing the waters (hopefully my first time in progressive Varsity!) if anything. To save time, I'm mainly interested in race theory (but it's starting to get really common and idk if it's a good idea for me to run it), queer theory (not strategically sound but kinda hella because queerness), and idk maybe things with good root cause arguments...? Thanks in advance!

    Market liberalization/god k

So I've been thinking of a kritik that was similar to what weber used in 2008. i wanted it to follow the lines of something similar to... Link (People perceive the market to be an omnipotent being/savior). Impact (This zombifies people into blindly accepting whatever the market values at the time) Alt Generic reject the market to begin becoming independent from the market as a different person/idea from what the market holds. Does anyone have any ideas to some cards that would make sense or other things I could do to run something like this? Thanks

What to do with the K

So one question that I had when I watched an out-round involved a team reading a K of proliferation, and the aff conceding no impact / no internal link to prolif and then acted as though it no linked out of it. Is that a legit thing to do? It sounds sketchy
  20. Last weekend I went to my 2nd tournament. (First novice tournament, I went to my first tournament open). My partner and I got 3rd place. We won our first four rounds easily, but the 5th round was a little more difficult. To add on to our arguments, I decided to run a conditional counterplan. I explained to the judge and opposing team how a counterplan worked as did my partner at the beginning of every one of our speeches. (Long explanation first speech, couple sentences every speech after). I thought we had it in the bag. Then I shook the affirmative team's hand and went to go shake the hand of the judge. He said to me "This was my first time judging and I really didn't know what was going on." At that point my heart sank. We ended up losing the round. He put two reason on the ballot. a) Because in their last rebuttal, the aff team said that our counterplan wasn't a legitimate counterplan because it was nontopical and because of an argument about China (which was a new argument that they brought up in their last rebuttal). I really enjoy kritiks and counterplans. I have been told numerous times by my debate coach to never run a kritik in a novice tournament. She also told me if I ran a counterplan I would have to explain it in a way that would make sense to the judge. Basically, my question is this: Is there anyway I can run a kritik or counterplan at a novice tournament that would make sense to a lay judge? (College judges are a little different). Also, would a judge find it offensive if I asked them their paradigm or if they liked kritiks/counterplans? I ask this question because one of our teams at that tournament because a judge felt insulted by them.

    Quantum Mechanics Aff

So Loyola has this interestingly weird affirmative (I've never hit it) the "Quantum mechanics Aff" They have it publicly listed and attached on the wiki, so I'm attaching it here. How would you go about responding to this aff. Teams that I know have competed against this aff have gone with the boring Cap + Framework strategy but not too thrilled about that....
