  1. You're right. Is there a way I can implement the theme of The Catcher in the Rye into an existing kritik?
  2. I know it doesn't sound legitimate. But I'd like to make it a strong argument. Leave if you don't have anything to intellectually contribute to the discussion. Thanks.
  3. I was thinking of this to be just a kritik, not an aff. As in when the aff runs a plan like solar power vehicles (something that hasn't been done before rather than a maintenance aff), I'd make a few arguments. 1. The aff is trying to progress the world. The world should stay the same. [insert CitR text] [insert explanation text from other authors] (Maybe include some Dedev impacts, just not the actual de-development alternative parts) 2. The aff is pretending to be policy makers, when in reality they're doing absolutely nothing. They're phonies. Thats bad [insert CitR text] [insert explanation text from other authors] 3. This part is kind of ridiculous but it's just a thought. Holden talks about how he wants everyone to stay children and not grow up. Hence he wants to be the 'catcher in the rye'. Could I some how accuse them of trying to grow up and be mature by engaging in policy debate? It's an absurd claim, but is there a way I can make this funny yet legitimate? Maybe an entertainment framework or something? 4. Then as an alternative maybe I could say to a. Leave things be [insert CitR text] b. Take away the aff's right to speak with some Mao evidence because they're just phonies who don't understand what they're talking about? Could you explain to me how it's a criticism of conservatism though? I felt like he was advocating for it hence he wanted the world to stay the same forever and all.
  4. So I just read The Catcher in the Rye. It really instigated a lot of thought in me. It seemed to involve conservatism. What if I could max that up a lot? i.e if I faced a plan next year saying that we should have solar powered vehicles, I could argue that "Certain things they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone." or something like that? Also it talks a lot about phonies? Perhaps I could use that back up the claim saying that the affirmative is phony for pretending they'll pass the plan. I could maybe back that up with Mao and take away their right to speak? It's really disorganized thought, but I feel like I could really make something out of this. I'm not aiming to make this super legitimate (possibly parody), but I'd like to make it good argument if possible.
  5. Whats the philosophy where the fortunate people in the world look at all the suffering in the world, and then feel "bad" and "sorry" about it, and then feel like good people BECAUSE they felt bad about it and move on (without ever doing anything about it)? I hope that made sense.
  6. I'm brainstorming and working on a Critical Privatization CP for next year. I figured it would have standard Privatization solvency cards with some standard net benefits. But I also thought maybe I could apply Capitalism Good arguments? Right now the transportation infrastructure (particularly roads and highways) are under governmental jurisdiction and responsibility. That's a form of statism which takes out capitalism when it comes to transportation. The CP would bring about capitalism. Or maybe this is just a Free Market CP?
  7. I wasn't trying to make this a squirrelly aff. More so a generic affirmative that could be used and understood by novice debaters.
  8. I feel like I'm thinking of the topic through a wrong mindset, but what if there was a plan... The United States Federal Government should endorse Hybrid vehicles and pay car companies X, Y, and Z to begin producing their vehicles as Hybrid vehicles. Something along those lines. X, Y, and Z would be American brands of course. I'd say it'd be pretty topical.. I could claim advantages like 1. Economy 2. Environment 3. Climate/Energy Leadership
  9. Self Explanatory: USFG should fund/develop/produce water-powered cars. Potential Advantages Thoughts - Environmental (Warming, Climate, etc) - Economy - Scientific Leadership - Globalization perhaps (gradually other people start making water powered cars or start buying from U.S) Would there be a substantial amount of literature on this topic? Potential neg args? Topicality? Is it unrealistic?
  10. By changing the name to Triana it makes it sound less adventurous and appealing to the sense of exploration. So it basically takes off the mask.
  11. @Stuffdmonkey; oh yea. thats true. What if I could argue that the USE of the acronym anywhere in the plan is bad. So they should change the actual name so that the acronym doesn't have to be used.
  12. Actually the argument is that this name DSCOVR appeals to the public's and politicians' sense of romantic voyage and exploration, which makes the plan itself more desirable while distracting us. HOWEVER if we use Triana, it doesn't appeal to those senses and doesn't distract us from what the plan actually is. @Chaos Couldn't I argue that they are just changing pronunciation to avoid being accused of imperialist objective? And that even the acronym LOOKS like DSCOVR? (Unless they end up saying the entire name outloud). What are some PICs of Acronym? I would obviously use case args against solar storms affs either way. This is just some additional stuff that I found interesting.

  14. Do you mean evidence that DSCOVR acronym is to exert sense of exploration? No i do not have that evidence. I have not cut this yet. However I know there are cites on the Exploration Word PIC which I could use for my impacts.
