  3. Hey all!! I am looking to be hired as a varsity policy judge at the Glenbrooks this year. I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh where i currently debate. I debated all through high school and middle school. I spent the summer at the SDI judging debates so I already have a lot of experience on this topic. I do not require travel expenses to be paid although it would be nice if it was and lodging is not required, but if it would be possible to get lodging provided I would greatly appreciate it. My email is madelinebudny@gmail.com and my phone number is (414) 530-9592. I hope to hear from someone soon! Thanks! Madeline Budny Class of 2017

    Windows 8?

Have any policy debaters switched over to Windows 8? I was wondering if it caused any problems/worked better...I'm shopping for a new computer and I'm trying to decide which OS to get. Thanks!
  5. I have been looking up and down for framework cards that talk about how a focus on local problems is better than focus on huge external problems... i.e. a focus on education in urban communities is better than a focus on space exploration (the card does not need to say that specifically) ... but i cannot find cards that say this. I have pages and pages of cards that say personal experience good, but none that say a focus on local or close to home issues is better. If anyone has cards like this, knows an author that writes about this, a book, an article, even a team that runs these types of argument that would have them on their wiki... ANYTHING... I would really appreciate it.
  6. Considering I'm the one who ran it, I can probably help in the explanatory department. The argument was that by using the 1AC to tell us we were being oppressed, what we were being oppressed by and how it was oppressing us is a form of the banking method and thereby keeps people oppressed. The alternative was to reject the affirmative's false action and embrace only true action and create a dialogue with the oppressed in every attempt to solve. Thanks for making this thread Jon, its so helpful how you make public threads about strats against the arguments of basically every team who has a cross-x account...
  7. I thought it sounded too good. In my defense, i am not a predominantly K debater. -___-
  8. Where could one find that card?
  9. Anybody have a video of this or know where I can find one?
  10. The schedule seems tight, but it's not as bad as it looks. I went there last summer and, granted, there are some days where you're working until bed check, but you usually have plenty of time at the end of the day. Also meal times are really long, I know a lot of people did they're running then. Weekends give you lots of free time too. Regardless, SDI is completely worth it. It's a great experience.
  11. Does anyone know the name of that narrative K type thing that was read in "Debate Team"? It was something about God being a girl and someone's two daughters, etc. If you've seen the movie, you probably know what I'm talking about. If anybody knows what its called, i'm trying to find it for the sake of reading it. Thanks!
  12. The problem with doing something like that where i'm from (which is Wisconsin. Strictly local tournaments too, except for the one national tournament we go to) is that half of judges are legit and the other half barely know what they're doing. The legit half all are kind of predisposed to not liking that type of framework/topicality/procedural type stuff. The half that doesn't know what they're doing probably doesn't even comprehend what framework is.
  13. This is my team's policy but most of the OTHER teams in my district don't like the whole "disclose neg strat" idea.
  14. Ah, okay. I was just curious. My teammates went against a performance aff at CFLs.
  15. Oh believe me, I did. I just wanted something new to add in there because I was sick of court legitimacy.. Yeah, I know. I was just going out on a limb to see if I could get something. But the file turned up on open evidence anyway, so i guess it worked out.
