  11. Check out this amazing public debate between the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) and the Institute for Critical Animal Studies(ICAS) on the topic of whether the law should be the preferred avenue to advance environmental conservation and animal rights. The SSCS is represented by Captain Paul Watson and Brandon Evans who are affirming that the law should be the preferred avenue. ICAS is represented by Bill Shanahan and Trevor Reddick who negate the topic from an anarchist indigenous perspective. The public debate is followed by a speech by Paul Watson and public Q&A. An amazing watch that's worth your time watching without a doubt! Check it out athttp://speechdebate.binghamton.edu/Videos/Debates/Public/113/2013-2014-public-debates/speaker-captain-paul-watson/

  14. The judges are mostly debate coaches and instructors from around the nation. The sponsors mostly provide prizes. As for neg ground, there are tons. You can attack the UN as an actor. You can defend the cultural rights of Japan. You can attack the speciesist bias in protecting only dolphins. There are also tons of other options for neg ground. Last year's topic was about banning vivisection and despite similar sponsors the neg won a bunch of rounds. All of the sponsors understand the value of switch-side debate. Aff ground could include sanctions or other mechanisms of enforcement, value-based debates, among others. My University-wide speech and debate class brainstormed a bunch of ideas of how to approach the topic on both sides. PETA2 is the youth-arm of PETA. As far as I know they just do awareness campaigns and don't do rescue operations. In either world, they're providing a bunch of support so we can provide hundreds of dollars of prizes.
  15. Binghamton University has announced its 2nd annual online debate tournament. All the details, including how to register, can be found on the website at- http://speechdebate.binghamton.edu/Tournaments/7/Home/binghamton-university-s-2nd-annual-online-debate-tournament/ Last year the tournament featured 100 competitors from around the United States in both high school and college. First place will receive a $100 Amazon.com gift card. Prizes will be given to the top high school and college competitors. Registration is free and instructors are encouraged to sign up as judges. This year's resolution is: RESOLVED: The United Nations should adopt a resolution decrying or demanding an end to the annual dolphin hunt in Taiji, Japan. The tournament is already sponsored by PETA2, The Institute for Critical Animal Studies, Binghamton University's English Department, and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. The website also features many national videos of college debate rounds if you click "Videos" on the top navigation bar and follow the links to "Live Policy Debate." We're trying to grow a collection of speech videos as well. Registration ends 4/19 and the first video is due up on 4/21 Register today at http://speechdebate.binghamton.edu/Tournaments/7/Home/binghamton-university-s-2nd-annual-online-debate-tournament/
  16. There's actually a pretty big diversity of styles people bring to the online format. If you check out last year's videos a bunch of people in the final rounds were going pretty fast. However, we do recommend making it more accessible depending on your judge and opponent, especially given that the tournament is international this year. $100 Amazon Gift Card for 1st place. Prizes for the top 10 competitors in both high school and college, Registration ends 4/19 and the first video is due up on 4/21. 20. You should be able to access it now. I posted the link a little while before it got approved.
  21. NSA scenario's impact is a police state in the 1NC shell. Additional impacts civil liberties, environmental regulations, and EU alliance. Terminal impact to patent reform is economic competiveness in the shell. Lots of additional impacts as well. Both scenarios are will pass, plan kills PC that's needed to make it pass, impact. The wage dis/ad has a focus link in the long shell as well as a PC link, which means even if plan is popular / increases PC that plan still triggers the d/a since it distracts Obama from being able to push the legislation. Wages has an econ impact scenario in the shell and a moral obligation impact that comes out in the overview.
