  2. DC Channel four news called him Khaddafy. maybe its a pun i dont get? or its just disappointing
  3. So essentially by running a counterfactual you take yourself "back in time" to when the event presented actually happened, and rather than having the current chain of events happen, pursue a different timeline in which we did something different altering our discourse now? How would this work on the aff while still being topical (idk if its possible)? Would i be along the lines of The USfg should have joined the soviets to explore and develop space beyond the earth's mesosphere? thanks for the help
  4. i heard someone talking about a running counterfactual and i was wondering it worked? its bascially like: The USfg should have done _____ right? idk i was just curious. clarification would be highly appreciated
  5. Id love this shab_chinnakonda@yahoo.com
  6. Ive heard about some people doing this and i was wondering if its legitimate or not? And if anyoen debates this a brief explanation on what happens
  7. im doing a communications aff so militarization links dont work anything else?
  8. space exploration leads to nuclear prolif? anyone have any? it would be awesome if i could get the sites

  10. im pretty new to debate and i havent really debated CPs much. So this may seem like a stupid question for some people but what exactly would you define as functionally competitive? ive talked about it with some people and i dont think Agent CPs are functually competitive becuase in the end the same plan is being enacted the agent is passing the same exact plan without any changes. Other people have argued with me about this but i dont think it is. maybe my understanding of CP competition is wrong idk. Also, why does it matter if its not competitive? of course the permutation would solve but the aff shouldnt be able to advocate the perm in the end because its not an advocacy right? thanks in advance.
  11. When you argue points of debate or accepting/refusing points made then isn't that just framework? Im fairly new at debating kritikally so you may want to get other advise about this, but you could argue that the ballot is a point of resistance to American sovereignty. So just because the clash makes it so that people do not agree on the idea that exceptionalism is horrible wont cancel out solvency. Also, there is a spanos card that says that the neg authors are bias due to their exceptionalist mindset. im not sure where it is but i have it somewhere.
  12. @ysinghal lol.... it was my idea i told shaf that EDIT: ok i guess shaf told me about it
  13. smart man. i actually am in the process of cutting one. im trying to finish reading up on all the lit first though.like the US going into space causes an exceptionalism mindset. i too believe in it and i thought it was a great idea. my plan is DnGish. Barbarian philosophy, removing yourself from the panopticon of America in favor of nomadic hiding. its from Spanos's book Spector of Vietnam. There is a lot of amazing evidence you can cut from it. Also, you can look into Foucault. I know Spanos is foucauldian so they work well with each other. Framework would be a big issue. what other holes are you thinking of?
  14. I think that its a good idea but i always thought the idea of space debris was that space debris is on the brink now. too much space debris risks shuttle damage. and it stops going to space altogether because there is virtually a layer of debris surrounding the earth. so we wouldnt be able to go out in space in the first place so astronauts wouldnt be there to be harmed. that may be on the same lines as your advantage but it seems like a good idea
  15. How would Baudrillard link into the resolution this year? im thinking advantage, but not really seeing a link on neg other than the basic nuke hype, disaster pron links
  16. Foucault's knowledge/power. i understand the basics and i am beginning to read more kritikal literature. i have not read much but i plan on running Foucault a lot this year. i know that Foucault says that knowledge is power and that all knowledge manifests itself in forms of power and vis versa. He also says power is bad and that it exists through the streets and alleys of the world. If he says power is bad that means he says knowledge is bad? Am i right or am i overgeneralizing Foucault's philosophy on power?

  19. Anyone have a pdf for Fatal Strategies? preferably OCRed if not thats ok too. but id appreciate if i could get that link or the book.
  20. I am also pretty new to debate when i was making my first neg strat i started out with 2 or 3 procedurals, 1 or 2 generic DAs, Ptx, and then an Agent CP. For example,on Okinawa this year, Topicality - in=throughout, ASPEC, Appeasement DA, Offshore Balancing DA, SKFTA, and Courts CP with SKFTA as a net benefit. in the end id usually go for ASPEC or the CP Next year im still working on a strat. Basically, i would go for the same generic idea. Topicality on the word substantially (im really confused on how this is going to work next year because you cant measure space exploration). Along with the topicality run a economy scenario. Im saying this because if they run a no link argument saying that we dont cause economic collapse that means they are not topical because they are not increasing enough to cause the impacts. so they are in a double bind. (am i explaining this right?). Along with this run ASPEC, agent specification, their plan text will generically say the USfg shold do the plan, but they need to specify which agent in the USfg because its so large and we cant predict which is used. With ASPEC run an agent Counterplan. basically we should do the plan through this agent rather than the United States federal government. the novices at my school use executive order or courts counterplan. i prefer courts counterplan because there are good "no link to politics" for it. Politics DA would be good to run as well. they generally say that Obama has political capitol and he needs to to pass ___ bill or plan. but passage of the aff's plan uses up too much political capitol so that bill wont be passed post aff plan and that causes _____ which leads to extinction. Courts CP doesnt link because it doesnt use political capitol so its a good net benefit. the reason i use this combination is because if they try to perm (perm do both) the CP they are agreeing to use the courts to pass the plan. However, the ASPEC argument states that they remain using the USfg so by perming they are changing their agent (USfg ----> Courts) and thats abusive to you. and if they dont perm most likely you win on CP. and if you want you can throw in another DA like Heg or space debris. this combination has worked 90% for the novices at my school and worked well for me in novice and JV. T-substantially, Economy DA, ASPEC, Politics, Agent CP, DA. This should work for almost any aff next year. if you have any questions or want me to clarify dont hesitate to ask. and if notices a mistake above feel free to correct me

    Helium-3

idk about backfiles but i know later on some camps will have written some affs on this http://www.cross-x.com/topic/50552-helium-3/page__p__832757__hl__helium__fromsearch__1#entry832757 it has a lot of good articles on it
  22. The United States federal government should provide support for the colonization of ________________ you could do that or something like The United States federal government should develop a space colony on __________

    Freud

Does anyone have any cards or aurthors that are against Freudian Psychoanalysis? preferably something that doesnt focus as much on Zizek or Lacan? id appreciate it
  24. wow thank you guys so much. what do you guys think of the idea in general i know there will be a lot of resource mining affs out and maybe some generic He-3 affs by camps and on planetdebate and shtuff, but i feel like it would get torn apart by Spanos or Cap or a timeframe debate. also i want to deviate from the generic enviornment advantages any ideas? im thinking like of like education maybe 1 envriornmnet scenario and then a dichotomy adv to go with a prolif good adv? like when non-capitalist countries have nuclear weapons its bad when capitalist countries have them its ok. good idea or no? how would a substantial T work out? On this aff and in general next year? you cant really measure exploration
