  1. tommy, never said i think all of debate is racist, nor did i say i agree with all of the above ideas. i just thought i might add to the topic what i have learned firsthand, to educate so people don't make ridiculous and warrantless claims. didn't come here to arg, but from the start you have assumed my identity, my feelings, and my views. a joke at another's expense through a stereotype of their identity can be very troublesome, and though you might think it is a joke it isn't funny. u still have not even thought to apologize, on the off chance that it was taken as a racial assumption, so don't speak about native unity when your starter is a joke at someone else's expense. oh, i never claimed to understand or get it all. in fact, i am learning daily all the different issues about the complexities of native identities and the struggle. i am still not certain how i personally feel about Ward, so thanks again for assuming. like i said above, i love the activity and enjoyed debating with all my partners--Brad, Aaron, Craig, Jason, Chad, Stacy, and Andy. even more, i loved coaching and working with avery, chris, andy, staci, sean, michael, josh. however, my experience was not shared when i tried to include many with a major stake in indigenous issues. i brought two traditional students Musg. Creek students to debate (using Fixico and Oral stories) and students told them to go back to the reservation (which they are not from). it is hard for indigenous children to understand the importance of self governance(ie sovereignty) because of a plethora of issues. debate can help improve their plight, but not if jokes at their expense is the norm. i am ending my responses because you think this is just trying to get a ballot. this is about including one of the most marginalized groups in our country in an activity that i believe could be valuable to them. instead, you have proven the reason why this unity may be impossible. so keep to the flow and continue to play ur game, i am going to Red Earth where people who fight this struggle daily are gathered to reflect the beauty and diversity in Native identities. thanx for telling me i am insane for wanting to educate and improve the struggle with intelligent minds, instead of bantering over assumed ideals. glad you found a place to simulate struggle, i will leave it up to the real debaters to make the change in their lives and in the rounds they will get to debate. i hope students are willing to seek more depth in this area to understand how we can begin to remove our own stereotypes and privilege. i am confronting mine daily and hope all of you will too. good luck to the debaters, who actualize their views into reality. the world needs you more than you know!
  2. Oh, you laughed did you Tommy. Well, I laughed when I realized it was you responding. U had no clue about the subject when you debated for us at UCO and you still have no clue. Instead of addressing the issue, both of you have decide to make personal attacks, which is the sign of poor argumentation skills. Not a word either one of you have written addresses the issue raised, instead you hid behind your privilege. Tommy’s assumption that I can’t use a phone is ascribing an identity based on what he believes native identity to be, which is non-responsive, upholds stereotypes, and yes is racist towards me. Don’t tell me how I should feel about his witty remark. Using stereotypes has never been productive. I was asked by some debaters too look at this thread. I saw the stupid idea of ethics challenges and though I would post the Bellecourt faction of AIM’s ideas on Churchill to maybe improve the discourse. Atleast, American Indian Studies and Native American Studies have gone far enough into the debate to question people who profit off of Native identities without really being involved with the struggle. So go ahead with your mocking and laughing at the idea of modern Native Americans, you both should think before you speak!

  4. Are you serious? We have contemporary identities. This is why it will be hard for many traditional indigenous students to communicate other than the image the community has made of our activist because of works from authors like Churchill. I don’t consider myself an activist I just work on removing stereotypes and opening a better dialogue in academia and in an activity I love from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for the nice dialogue it was entertaining, but it stings to get stereotyped.

  6. if u understood Chatah, then u would understand our words mean different things. i am calling out how many coaches instruct young minds without opening them up to the greater depth of literature, hence child profits (called a m-e-t-a-p-h-o-r). if you knew Ojibwa, then you would know they prefer to be called by their name the Anishinabe tribe. how about Dennis Banks? he is a founding member of aim and from the same tribe, and he is another person who would speak to the ills of Wart chucherder. Our first trip to a tournament people laugh at the students and told them to go back to the reservation in a round. U should know who I am by that description alone. I have only one agenda and that is to improve indigenous political activism, which includes your activity. Do you? Besides paving your summers acting like you know about struggles hiding behind pieces of paper cut out on a subject. Why so angry? I am not hiding I am in plain sight. What I do know is you prove my point that many are engaging the literature with intent for use, instead of intent to understand into the realm of activism. How is that helping the community?   7. nice response, it shows the depth of your understanding on this subject. not a single NDN studies program, except maybe his former u, takes a bit of his work or writing serious. u folks never took time to evolve the native perspective and that is why our representation is lowwwwww amongst your community. ur 2002 discussion was horribly developed and once again used the federal government to speak for over 562 different groups of people. this high school topic people have continued to use cases on banning blood quantum, but no checked that if a person is descended from a tribal roll then they can receive federal money, lately some states are recognizing. the problem is that no one in the community understands the federal trust relationship, placed in states disclaimer clauses waives states jurisdiction over tribes—fused by every component that recognizes tribal sovereignty. So basically, the cases are inaccurate of reality. Only the 562/3 (as two more are gaining this as we speak) tribes determine their services because they are separate governments. i know every response you will make too this thread. what you need to see is the reality of activism versus frauds, who benefit from a distance. i believe, one might say this is a commodified identity used in your verbal dialogue for your entertainment value. once again, others speak for us in the struggle. thanx to a misinformed community your shallow depth of the subject continues covert racism, and shapes and places a static identity on other in the struggle. it says right there under my user name why i have spoken so if u knew a native tongue you could figure out why i am here. but instead continue to write all of our histories and political happenings in your languages and for you

The charges were research misconduct and plagiarizing the writings and research of other academics. While we, the leadership of the American Indian Movement Grand Governing Council applaud the thoughtful and reasoned decision, we want to point out to all that for more than 25 years the legitimate leadership of AIM’s Grand Governing Council attempted to expose Ward Churchill as an academic, literary, and ethnic fraud.Churchill perpetuated his fraudulent Indian identity in order to get himself streamlined into tenure and Director of the Ethnic and Indian Studies Department as well to market his plagiarized and revisionist books. He has also plagiarized the American Indian Movement’s intellectual property rights and tainted the goodwill for Indian people that exists nationally and worldwide.He has made hundreds of thousands of dollars on the lecture circuit, promoted, yet today, by Speak Out Speakers Bureau promoting him as Indian, all after we notified them of his ethnic fraud. The result of this was to ignore the voices of authentic Indian academics, intellectuals, leaders and activists. Churchill has fraudulently represented himself as a member of the Keetoowah Nation of Cherokee Indians of Oklahoma, which he is not. When challenged to show proof of any Indian ancestry he waves an associate membership card that at one time the Keetoowah Nation would give to anyone who would promise to help them. Even former President Bill Clinton received one of these cards of associate membership. Ernestine Berry who presided on the Keetoowah Enrollment Committee and served on the tribal council for years stated to Denver Post writer, Howard Pankratz on February 3, 2005 that Churchill was trying to get recognized as an Indian. He could not prove he is an Indian. Berry said that he was given this associate membership in the 10,000 member tribe based in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in the early 1990’s. “Churchill started coming around in 1992 or 1993 saying he wrote some books and was a big time author, and convinced us he could help our people,” Berry said, “and it was on that basis he wasgiven the associate membership card.”Barry also said, “Churchill never fulfilled his promise to help the tribe, and after he received his associate card, we never heard from him again.”Due to this abuse and misrepresentation of the associate card by Churchill, the Keetoowah Nation has discontinued the practice of issuing these cards.Not only is Ward Churchill a literary and academic fraud, just as egregiously he continues to fraudulently represent himself as being Keetoowah Indian, and a member of the American Indian Movement’s chapter in Denver, Colorado. With deceit and treachery, he has been able to manipulate the Denver Indian community into giving him and his co-conspirator, Glen Morris, credibility and cover. Glenn Morris is a professor at the University of Colorado who is another Caucasian American masquerading as an Indian, This is designed to confuse Indians and non-Indian alike. Following the decision of the University of Colorado Board of Regents, he, along with former personality in the American Indian Movement, Russell Means, created the illusion that AIM supports Ward Churchill.Because of disruptive behavior and ethnic fraud, both Churchill and Morris were expelled from the International Indian Treaty Council by its International Board of Directors on September 23, 1986. The International Indian Treaty Council, or IITC is the international, political, and diplomatic Corp of the American Indian Movement. Seven years later on November 23, 1993, following a lengthy investigation, the American Indian Movement’s National Board of Directors expelled Churchill and Morris from AIM.While Russell Means has resigned from the American Indian Movement on several occasions, he along with Churchill and Morris continue to manipulate the Denver American Indian Movement community so that Churchill and Morris can perpetuate their ethnic fraud on the academic, and literary community, and as well the Indian and non-Indian people worldwide.They are deceitful and treacherous to the point that they will always surround themselves with innocent and naïve individuals of the Indian and non-Indian communities, some who are well known who actually have endorsed their revisionist, inaccurate, shoddy, and fraudulent writings. The result of this is that without review of the contents of their publications, Indian and non-Indian educators and educational institutions and libraries are using these books in their curriculum. In doing so, they and our students become victims of this fraud. Using the American Indian Movement to give themselves credibility, cover and access, they have been able to infiltrate other organizations and movements nationally and internationally.They use publications like Houghton-Mifflin, Random House Publishers, South End Press, and Speak Out Speakers Bureau who allow Ward Churchill and others to perpetuate their literary, academic, and Indian fraud on the unknowing public.What you can do to help: The American Indian Movement Grand Governing Council urges our friends and supporters worldwide to expose and isolate these conspirators expeditiously. We request that educators, Indian and non-Indians alike remove from their curriculums and libraries all of their revisionist, inaccurate and shoddy writings, and send them back to their publishers (a clear example of the problem is the Encyclopedia of the North American Indian by Frederick E. Hoxie, published by Houghton Mifflin, a subsidiary of Random House). Mr. Marc Jaffe of Houghton Mifflin first contacted and met with Tim Giago, Oglala Lakota, founder and former award winning publisher of Indian Country Today, and syndicated columnist to do the book, and without notifying Mr. Giago, Mr. Jaffe selected Mr. Hoxie who allowed Indian literary and academic fraud, Churchill to submit the article, "Radicals and Radicalism, 1990 to the Present." Discontinue utilizing Speak Out Speakers Bureau and publications from South End Press, Zeta Magazine, and Common Courage Press until they agree to stop promoting these frauds. We request that organizations such as the National Indian Education Association, and the American Indian Higher Education Consortium create a watchdog-type agency to review what books are being published by these literary, academic, and Indian frauds so that their revisionist writings are not finding their way into our education curriculum.
