  1. Stephanie and I will be attending the state tournament.
  2. Mercer Island is looking for a coach for Stanford next week. We're generally a critical team so experience in that area would be great. If you're interested or would like more information, please contact us as soon as possible at sghods93@gmail.com with your qualifications. Thanks
  3. EITHER YOU LINK OR YOU LOSE, TAKE YOUR PICK!
  4. Mercer Island is looking for a coach for the coming Stanford (Feb 6-9) and Berkeley (Feb 12-15) tournaments in early February. You'd mostly be coaching me and Stephanie and we're generally a critical team so experience in that area would be great. If you're interested or would like more information, contact us at sghods93@gmail.com with your qualifications. Thanks
  5. Everyone who has ever posted in this thread should read this: http://www.the3nr.com/2009/05/27/adapting-at-nationals/
  6. I realize camps are just putting out dates but if you all know any camps that start after july 14th, could you post them? Thanks
  7. if only it wasn't written >100 years ago...
  8. Our school is still undecided in whether it wants to fund the debate team / have a debate class into the first few days of school so we're planning on making a video to illustrate the benefits of debate. We were wondering if you all had any sort of backfiles on "debate good" type of arguments as in statistics that debate increases literacy rates, debaters are more likely to get into college, public speaking is #1 fear in America, etc. arguments like that. Thanks, Mercer Island High School Debate

  10. Excellent example of a line by line:

    Please Help on Cap K

Their alt args will depend on which alternative you choose to run. For the impact level of the debate, you'd probably need blocks to (note: this is one-line list, if you want more in detail just ask): cap k2 heg cap k2 space (i.e. colonizing) cap k2 whales cap k2 environment cap k2 stopping overpop cap k2 stopping poverty a2 policymaking framework -also some generic alt defense args- cap inevitable Gibson-Graham the perm debate That's far from all the answers though btw.
  12. Just to clarify, the Whitman tournament dates are Nov 5-7 for 2009 so it's the weekend after (http://www.whitman.edu/rhetoric/hstourn/000inviteintro.htm). It was halloween weekend last year though.
  13. Not to mention there are probably a lot of judges that would dock you a full speaker point if the first 7 arguments you make on a k is 7 permutations for the sole purpose of time skew. (which is also extremely transparent to the other team)
  14. Yes, it's called Baudrillard. Or you could put "Debrix Geopolitics" on the header of your file and confuse the fuck out of anyone who doesn't understand when you say "Baudrillard in 94." http://www.scribd.com/doc/7317/Baudrillard-Kritik Most of those shells relate to what you want but you should probably look at Disaster Porn mostly.
