  1. go to the college case list and look up Weber. they've been reading arguments related to christianity and God for a while.
  2. would you be willing to judge a round?

  3. Some people from UMKC are looking for judging contracts (4 total). if you're interested e-mail me at: jgarcia1yh@gmail.com or jjgy9b@umkc.edu
  4. i both agree and disagree with this. its best to be able to say both, but sometimes you simply can't (you're reading a generic k about taking action in a specific context such as biopower, cap, nietzsche, any zizek k, etc.). the k should link to one at the very least and have to prove why that relates to the other. for instance, reading epistemology arguments about why the plan exists solely because of the justifications. or reading method arguments about how we create the solution and then establish the problem to justify the action. thats a way of relating to both without having specific evidence on both. i think saying that the k should operate on both at the same time is kind of a high standard that would more or less make reading k's pretty difficult. and no alex, the cool kids aren't reading cap.
  5. i went to the midnight release and watched it on IMAX, and the scenes that were shot in IMAX were really fun to watch. overall worth the extra price, IMO.

    The Watchmen

I'm really excited for it but also a bit nervous. I'm a really big fan of the graphic novel, and i was really surprised by how well everything looked in the trailer in comparison to the comics. Almost all of the scenes in the trailer are near perfect renditions of whats in the comic and that made me happy. that being said, I'm kind of nervous about it considering that they have to adapt a 12 part story into 2 and a half hours. I mean Alan Moore was making Watchmen with the intention of challenging the use of the medium itself. i think its kind of an uphill battle to actually make it really good and exciting. i also heard that they are inserting an alternative energy subplot in there to make it more timely which sounds odd to me.
  7. Juan Garcia - Highland Park, MN UMKC, debating.
  8. yeah i'm gonna have to pull out as a judge in this debate. next week is the week of the TOC so i'm prepping the whole week and won't be able to check this website. plus i won't be back till 8 days after the 1ac so it just won't be worth it. sorry.
  9. i think a critique (as in the off-case position) can work rather effectivley without an alternative. the only issue is the one concerning the uniquness of your impacts which i think can be taken care of with framing the debate in such a way that those debates don't have any revelance. reading a method first framework, for example, allows you to make claims why the aff has to justify their flawed method before we evaluate anything else. you don't need an alternative in that case because its about the aff's claims out of the 1ac being a bad thing which means an alternative option is not necessary if the they are bad in a vacuum. abusive? i guess. effective? very.
  10. i'll judge if you want. Paradigm: i'm a high school debater finishing my senior year so i know a decent amount about this years topic. as far as argumentative preference i really don't care providing that whatever argument you are going for has some sort of warrant behind it. i run K's all the time as well as theory so i understand those debates rather well so i'm fine with them. if you want to do something that is not conventional i'm fine with that providing you can quickly explain what it is that you are doing and why i should vote for you. framework arguments are important to me as they help me come to understand how i evaluate things. if you have an argument you believe should be evaluated before anything else then you need to make a warranted argument for that otherwise you leave it up to me. impact calculus is a must for any argument you are going for, again the more you do means the less i will have to fill in for you. i will most likely default to an offense-defense paradigm unless you tell me to do otherwise.
  11. Big thanks to both you and Aimi for making this caselist, its value to me has been indescribable.
