  1. For anyone not able to attend the golden desert tourney, who is considering debating at UNLV, I'm happy to announce that we recently secured a one million dollar debate scholarship endowment. We have generous debate scholarships available to students who are hard working, talented, team players, and are good people. Please contact Dr. Jake Thompson for more information on UNLV Debate scholarships. Thanks!
  2. As the head coach at UNLV, I'd like to congratulate all the participants at the 2009 Golden Desert Invitational. I'd particularly like to congratulate those quarterfinalist teams receiving a TOC bid: Damien EH, West LP, Harker PM, RHSM LF, St. Vincent de Paul DB, Damien RB, Brophy MakMar, Greenhill KK I also feel compelled to say something about the UNLV team, our coaching staff, our debaters, and our "judging." I am firmly convinced that our debate team is poised to become one of the tem best college policy teams in America in the next five years. My students are hard working, team players, and are committed to debate as an educational activity. I, my assistants, and my debaters take judging very seriously, and at tournaments like the Golden Desert we only use "qualified" judges to adjudicate varsity CX debates (specifically, only our assistant coaches and the students who regularly participate compeitiivetly in varsity college policy debate). Anyone interested in joining a debate team full of good people that work hard and want to win a ton of debates should contact me. UNLV has GREAT scholarship opportunities, and is a team poised to achieve great things. Jake Thompson
