  1. I understand how you feel, but the most important thing I can stress to you is attitude. As you've seen, a dozen or so people think you should keep debating because of how powerful this activity is and how important it is to all of us. But if you have the attitude that you will never break into an out round you never will. My senior year of high school, my partner and I would set goals for the weekend. It seemed we would always just meet our goal and stop there. For instance, we often set the goal of making it to out rounds and we would, but we'd lose that first elim debate. My point is you have to believe you can and will succeed before you will. I understand domination of debate by men. My squad is all male (including coaches) except myself and one other girl, and all of our already committed recruits are male. Fortunately, they respect us as key parts of the squad because we work our asses off. I encourage you to do the same. You need to find someone who is willing to commit to you and debate, to prove that you are just as good, if not better. PM me if you need any specific advice, I really can relate a lot.
  2. It now seems this may not be true. Either way, I encourage you all to look at UMKC if you're looking to debate. I know it is a Missouri School but the squad has great out-of-state tuition waivers (read: Big Scholarships) available if you prove you are willing to commit. There are also scholarships on top of that for debate and academic performance. As of now, we're a very, very young squad and pretty small so there is a ton of room to grow. The age of the squad means that even as a first and second year you will travel a lot and to some bigger name tournaments. We took three first years and a second year to Wake a little while ago. Vega is good at responding, but you'll get a better sense of what the squad itself is really like if you either a) visit or PM or IM a squad member.
  3. Actually we were walked over, but the idea is correct. And, well, I guess we're the only Kansas kids on the squad up here, so that's it. Toni

    Food

I would have to agree that Derby Hall and the chicken fried steak is hard to beat in terms of a 'throw down' I think that McPherson's tournament with the chicken fried steak, and home cooked food in the judges lounge is pretty awesome.
  5. I attended McPherson High in Central Kansas and was highly active in Debate and Forensics. I will be at UMKC next year, though I am living in Overland Park. I am willing to drive anywhere within the KC metro area and come when needed. I can help with: Lincoln-Dougals Policy (all styles- lay-friendly to critical) Oration Extemp Public Forum For reference, talk to my coach, Melissa Newton (melissa_newton on this forum) Toni Jantz
  6. I'll join the bandwagon and post on this thread. I will be at UMKC next year, though I am living in Overland Park. I am willing to drive anywhere within the KC metro area and come when needed. I can help with: Lincoln-Dougals Policy (all styles- lay-friendly to critical) Oration Extemp I am very famaliar with the Kansas judging pool and am willing to adapt to any squad. Toni Jantz
  7. I will join the bandwagon and highly recommend this camp! It is cheap, but unlike Wal Mart, you get more than you pay for. Unlike most of the other camps in state, this one actually teaches kansas-friendly debate, with flexability. Despite the focus on hard work and debate skills, HOA offers lots of chances for fun. Alum remember things like Harm-burgers and dance parties. I highly recomend Heart of America Debate Camp, besides- you have the chance to spend time with my fabulous coach, Melissa Newton and her partner in crime Mr. Wood.
  8. Name: Toni Jantz School: University of Missouri Kansas City Major: Political Science, minor in communications Debating: Yes!
  9. As Amanda said, McPherson was at Hutch though Chantalle and I weren't.
  10. This is just a post to see who's going to the Wichita CFL at El Dorado the weekend of the 9th. Chantalle and Toni from McPherson will be there.
