pretty much the same thing that happened to kempsville at regionals happened to cox at districts. tallwood, from what i understand, doesn't have a policy program at all anymore. they had some l-ders entered at districts, but they didn't advance.

no worries, duane, and i'm very sorry for your loss. yes, you read it right. a bronchial infection hit colin like a ton of bricks. he missed several days of school last week and definitely couldn't debate. towards the end of the week, adora started to get sick as well, so we had to withdraw our contemp entry from regionals. as far as classic goes, i really have no idea what happened. i've literally read the ballot that kept us from clearing a half dozen times and there is no rfd on it. the judge just compliments both teams a few times and wishes them both luck at states. i have not a clue as to why she voted the way she did and i guess she felt no need to indicate why on the ballot. so, there you go. no kempsville at states.

caitlin, this is why duane thinks we can't take jokes. by the way, thanks to you, i had to judge an l-d round today at regionals. speaking of regionals... i'm not sure how things went down in l-d and congress, but congrats to princess anne on advancing 4 policy teams to states. it would have been great if we could have joined you, but apparently the fates had other plans.

I'll let Oliver, Alex, or Sid field that question in regards to Cox, Lizzie. I sent two teams and both advanced to Regionals. Meanwhile... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COLIN! I see you have Mr. Busey out and about, drumming up interest for the new album... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRQzvdyuFYY&feature=related

COLLEGE-TYPE PEOPLE... Deon Gardner, the director of the Eastern Regional Debate Tournament is looking for judges. The tournament is March 14th and 15th at Warwick High School in Newport News. Don't quote me on it, but I think he's paying $15.00 per round and providing foody combustibles. If you're interested, please contact Deon at 757-660-8752 or deon.garner@nn.k12.va.us. Lizzie, Caitlin, and Sebastian, I know you check this thread out pretty regularly. Please judge if you can and pass this info on to any other qualified people you know... we need good judges!

i hope we can count on the state tournament remaining stationary on the calendar... but the vhsl moves in mysterious ways. congrats to jade and ellison from khs for taking first at the tdl! i hope you guys are lucky enough to get used to the feeling. ellison... 3rd speaker... not too shabby. jade... 2nd speaker... you clearly did your homework... you deserve it. congrats to the cox kids! oliver... 1st speaker... i don't give many 29's, but you earned it in the 2nc. meg... 2nd in l-d... i'm predicting a 1st-place trophy for you at districts. congrats to the pa kids! you guys dominate congress like nobody's business... i'm seeing lots of that going on at states. all in all, a good evening for the beach.

Harvard policy results for Virginia teams... Cox (Oliver and Alex), Kempsville (Colin and Adora), and Thomas Jefferson PH all went 4-3 and would have cleared if the tournament had broken to full trips instead of partial. Sam and Ellison from Kempsville went 2-5 Thomas Jefferson CS went 3-4 Thomas Jefferson LL went 2-5 Thomas Jefferson MX went 2-5 Thomas Jefferson ZH went 2-5

congrats to oliver for taking 3rd speaker at pennsbury and alex for taking 9th. colin and adora, you were 9th seed... you missed clearing by 1 adjusted speaker point. it stings, i know.
  15. reptilians? that's sooo last year. it's all about the mokele-mbembe now... "The most terrifying sound I have ever heard, which sounded like an on-coming earthquake or an exploding, nearby robot, suddenly greeted us from a large underwater cave." While the water of the river was boiling and foaming directly in front of their canoe, a darkish, shining lizard-like head suddenly rose from the dark water. They described the head as nearly the size of the head of a fully grown hippo, which sat on a thick, swan-like neck. The enormous neck was turned towards the two men, and for just a few seconds, although it seemed like an eternity, the monster simply stared at Sanderson and Russel. Mr. Sanderson summed up his thoughts with these emphatic words: "I don't know what we saw, but the animal, the monster, burned itself into my retinas. It looked like something that ought to have been dead millions of years ago. As a scientist, I should have been happy, of course, but this encounter was so frightening, so nasty that I never want to see it again." a threat to public health, if i've ever heard one.
  16. kempsville and cox, both from virginia beach, were there.

not me. i'd never allow myself to be seen at a tournament like that. john is curled up in the fetal position, waiting for jeff kahn to swoop in and school him on the glory of the pennsbury experience. swoop not, jeff, for john is only joshing.

matt called, but i had my phone off. i'm going to send copies of the itinerary and overnight travel form to jackson so he can give them to you and you can give them to your parents. it has all the info... departure and arrival times, hotel, and such. i still need to talk to you guys TODAY about my concerns regarding space in the vehicles before this is a definite go. the turn around time will need to be quick on this since jackson will have to register you by tomorrow and i'll need your checks on tuesday, so having the forms on hand is a good thing. have matt give andy a call after school today. we'll be on the road and i can never hear my phone in the car.

kempsville people... no meeting today, in case you hadn't heard. kempsville people going to emory... tomorrow morning, 7am. be there, or be square. smell that? chicken and waffles. tidewater people who were going to go to potomac falls this weekend... it sucks that they canceled the tournament. you have my sympathies. deeva and matt... since you don't get to go to potomac falls and i'm a sympathetic fellow, i'm willing to consider squeezing you in with us for pennsbury. but there are some things that need to be worked out pronto in order for that to happen. one of you needs to give me a call asap. you can get my number from jackson or one of the kempsville kids.
  22. re: badiou... why does everyone ignore being and event?
  23. it depends on your definition of anti-semite. nietzsche had a metric ton of problems with religiosity in general and christianity in particular. he indicts judaism as the poisonous tree which gives birth to the poisonous fruit of christianity and comes off sounding like a raging anti-semite while doing so... but i'm not sure he held a specific contempt for judaism or jews. of course, his sister was a total anti-semite and after nietzsche got famous and went nuts she mangled his work and used it to support her racist beliefs. i'm pretty sure she wound up joining the nazi party.
  24. huh? what? have they met the larger cx world? it's pretty friendly. hardly abhorrent at all.
  25. Wow, sorry to hear that, Duane. We would have liked to come, but the conflict for us was with Emory, not Nat Quals... although why Nat Quals is held the same weekend as Emory and a Potomac Falls is definitely a mystery. Is there any chance Pot Falls can be rescheduled? Maybe the weekend before or after Harvard?
