  1. if anyone still needs a judge commitment filled or some extra coaching @ NFL nats in vegas - i'm looking to get hired. I'm a debater at Cal State LongBeach. I competed in the high school policy circuit for 4 years and my experience is traditionally with the K and/or performance debate.....but i'm definitely down with the disad/cp debate. My email address = ajjenkinsa@aol.com aim: ajjenkinsa

    Feminism?

congratulations...for knowing nothing. I think its pretty hard to choose to have your clitoris removed when your 6 years or younger.
  5. aly's just been smokin too much crack.
  6. "Neitzsche would have found this to be the best option" glad to see that you channel nietzsche...... couple problems with this statement: despite the fact that nietzsche is content with oppression...i dont think he would agree with the United States making a conscious/moral/ethical decision to remove itself from africa and i dont think that removing ourselves from africa is doing nothing. sounds like an awful big advocacy to me.
  7. So the counterplan essentially leaves you with the status quo?? sounds like a Great idea....not...
  8. i'm pretty sure USC offers scholarship money. no idea about berkeley
  9. it is definitely true....because it has alot to do with the judging pool the preference of the teams debating. Its silly to say that every where in the country is the same...when we know thats not true.
  10. i'm really confused abourt the purpose of this thread.......
  11. an adequate prediction i'm sure...
  12. both teams are excellent - and their programs have alot to offer! I cant really give adequate advice on which program is better to be a part of (seeing as i have experience with neither)........but i can definitely tell you that they are great schools with great debate teams.
  13. one more thing: anyone who has not gotten into school - or missed deadlines......and are in a bind --- long beach can get you in till june 1st! Even if you havent previously applied. Just let us know!
  14. Aly and I also debated an ASU team at berkeley - the season opener. So i'm assuming they are in revitalizing mode.
  15. Elaine Scarry - she talks about the imperfections of language - and she specifically refers to the body as well as torture language --- but i'm sure there is alot of literature u can find helpful!
  16. your concerns are certainly justified -- but with that being said: one note: Just because someone handed you a "gay rights" card doesnt mean that the fight is not beyond - gay rights. One thing that i strongly believe is that when one group is oppressed - we are all oppressed - and we are in a never ending struggle. Gay Rights is a fight alongside all sexually different, racially different, and everyone else at the intersections of identity. So just because that flyer says "gay rights" it doesnt mean that it is an isolated struggle. Just keep that in mind.
  17. screaming matches can happen any day. it is in showing strength in numbers , speaking through clothings worn for the day (such as all black or purple accents), signs and advertisements, and the defiance of any verbal communication at all that allows the day to have the potential to be so powerful in numbers when joined by all marginalized groups and their supporters. your concerns are valid but that is why the day of silence is only 1 tool to aid in fixing things not the medicine to cure it all. It doesnt matter if you are skeptical - because the point of this day is not FOR YOU - its not a global revolution - it is an internal experience that each person can voluntarily choose to engage in. So often we are conditioned to only take into consideration the violence that we experience in our every day lives - forgetting the lived experiences of those around us! A day of silence is an opportunity for the community to silence themselves and to internally mourn for all of those who live at the margins of society - who experience violence because of their race, sexuality, gender, etc. There is only a risk that benefits result from this protest - whether they be internal or global. There is no reason to be so skeptical - rather be proud that there are people who believe in their cause - and who resist.
  18. truth is - its only going to be a waist of time in the 1AC. If you really think that blip at the bottom of your speech is going to prevent teams from running their generic arguments - your crazy. And you invariably end up repeating yourself in the 2AC anyway - its not like you gain any time trade off by having the argument to extend.

    UCLA?

UCLA had a couple debaters compete in JV and novice at one or two local tournaments -- but i'm not sure if they plan on keeping it up for next year.
  21. p.s. i love oxford - and would never leave! Especially now that i'm gonna get paid next year. JOY!
  22. Aly - your such a bitch! hehe just kidding. Who cares...honestly. I think Jon is definitely right - alot of judges concern themselves with the politics of school affiliation - over the concept of fair deliberation. But with that being said -- i dont think kristina was perpetuating this idea - simply pointing out that she was proud for not squirreling - since she always does - and we pick on her - knowing that it doesnt make her a bad judge - just that she evaluates debate rounds differently then some - and that it makes her unique. anyway - i think this is funny - cant we all just get along
  23. this is sooo true - Joe Carver = amazing....i doubt there is anything you cant learn from this man
