  1. in terms of what? specifying which renewables wouldn't be all that great, and most affs wouldn't spec anyway so that they could perm any cp's... i'm not sure which mechanism pics there would be, since the alt to incentives would be a hardline approach; the bizcon disad to hardline alone makes it a tough sell. i could see a renewable portfolio standard possibly being an option, but that has its own drawbacks. i might be missing something, what were you thinking of kunal?
  2. Health Care is totally sweet. Especially as compared to the alternative energy topic which has functionally no limit on the aff. Univeral Health Care is a more specific term of art. The fact that alternative energy incentives is nowhere near specific enough. Plus 'incentives' have the potential to make it bidirectional.
  3. I'm creating another version of this since I accidentally posted the other in Tournament invites and results and have no idea who the moderators are anymore. Anyway, maybe we could sticky this? And, mods feel free to delete the old posting. I know that regional circuits are generally pretty predictable in terms of who shows up at tournaments, but this would be a great place to store, and locate, various judging philosophies for people who are only around sometimes, or for information for new programs/young debaters. Everyone should upload a copy of their judging philosophy/paradigm to David Glass' judge Wiki here: http://judgephilosophies.wikispaces.com/ It's easy, it's painless, and then everyone can find it rather easily. It's also really easy to update it later. It's also useful because the NDCA website is pretty lame about updates, and the MIFA was last updated when dinosaurs roamed the Earth... alongside Jesus.
  4. Okemos always has delicious food. As a college student, it's awesome.
  5. Haha, Sold, but this gets me out of my verbal commitment to judge at EK for a dollar. email me.

  7. As always, the rest is up for bidding. Still available for a half time commitment. Pre-round prepping available when I am not detained by my former (sort of?) squad.
  8. I, too, am available to judge. Will cut cards for a nominal fee, and will help with pre-round prep if you hire me to judge. Lodging not necessary. thanks neal nvalley AT gmail DOT com

  11. http://scienceblogs.com/dispatches/2007/08/atheist_mistreatment_in_iraq.php?utm_source=mostemailed&utm_medium=link I was on digg.com reading my news, when I clicked on this link, and it sent me to this blogposy by Ed Brayton, who some of you may know. I thought it was an interesting coincidence and decided to share it here.
  12. Wow, First time I've ever seen 5 winning topic areas that would all be interesting. Universal Health Care would get my vote.
  13. http://www.davemckay.co.uk/philosophy/nietzsche/ For future reference for your cause. The above website has nearly the entire collected works of Nietzsche. Not sure if y'all will end up using it, but thought I would throw it out there anyway. Easy reference.
  14. that doesnt make any sense. it would operate the same way tournaments usually do. a single critic can only watch a specific team once in prelims. and then can proceed to watch the same team multiple times in elims, the only difference would be how those critics are selected and placed.
  15. All of those decisions were clearly warranted.
