    Song of the Day Thread

Just to get it started, here was my song for yesterday:
  3. Post a good one or.... DIE!! :-) Childish Gambino - Freaks and Geeks (HD Music Vid…:
  4. Mac DeMarco - Passing Out Pieces (Official Video): Spoon's new album is pretay cool too: Also Sun Kil Moon, Lykke Li and War On Drugs are great
  5. Oops, I'm sorry I only saw the other reply. I think there is a strong case for manslaughter but not second-degree murder, in this case. It's almost as if they went so big knowing that Zimmerman would get off. The murder charge is ambitious, at the very least, unless there is more evidence that hasn't been revealed to the general public. His apology was fake as all hell, but it was a fantastic backing to his 'stand-your-ground' defense. I strongly feel he will be acquitted and ultimately the lasting legacy of this for Trayvon's family will be a reexamination of the 'stand-your-ground' laws in Florida. http://video.msnbc.m...c-news/47116858 This is what I was referring to by the ridiculously sloppy questioning. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/25/us-usa-florida-shooting-zimmerman-idUSBRE83O18H20120425
  6. I feel you. Well, I don't think I was saying we shouldn't talk about it. I definitely feel more the opposite; otherwise I would've ignored the conversation, right? Well, I'm unsure the situation was as you described it. I don't think the facts that have surfaced, especially in the past week or two, back you up on that. I would've normally been up in arms about this on this website a year or two ago, but as the truth comes out; I just can't. Maybe I'm just getting old and color blind but I don't think it's racism and I'm not entirely sure that Zimmerman didn't act in self-defense. If that picture is legitimate, by Florida law, Zimmerman deserves to get off clean. I really feel there was a rush to judgement by the media before we learned the full extent of what occured. However, this does raise issues about Florida's self-defense laws and that's the issue that Trayvon's death should bring more than anything, in my humble opinion. We will and that's to be expected, man. Like I said this has been extremely polarizing (this is coming from somebody who was old enough to rememeber Rodney King and the LA riots)
  7. It's not that I'm gonna disagree with anything that you said. I used to be the same way around here. Maybe I'm just getting old and jaded. But I would compare this case to OJ, it's just polarizing all around; a media circus/shit-fest. However, I don't see any help to the cause talking about 'white boys' and all that. Maybe you're right but that just seems self-defeatest to your argument. Nah, I was asking you how many people died there yesterday; even this week. Look it up. It was just an example (pick any city with a dense population); and if you actually know about the 'system;' you know a lot more than half those murders go unsolved. Cats feign like they care about Trayvon like as if they knew him in an attempt to make money or get media attention (see: Lebron/Miami Heat); instead of actually addressing the underlying issue of violence in our communities and why these types of murders happen. It's disgusting. It really isn't, you fell into the trap that somehow this case is more important than John Doe who was murdered last night without a single trace or lead. The point I was trying to make is that the media just latched to this case as if this was an isolated situation or even remotely important and a lot of people took the bait. They just needed a story because the news landscape was pretty bland for a few weeks. And for what it's worth, I really don't even think Trayvon qualifies as a 'racist shooting' on any level. P.S. Zimmerman will be acquitted if he gets a decent jury. The case is just contentious at best and the questioning from the prosecution has been more than a joke. Prepare for riots again.

  9. I appreciate a lot of the discourse going on here. I'm basically beating a dead horse... but while it's sad another young black youth was murdered; I don't understand the media (or otherwise) outrage, nobody gave two shits about Amadou Diallo or Sean Bell back when. But it seems in a 'new' racially sensitive America, we're all up in arms when a hispanic kills a black teen. Oh yea, Obama, that could'a been your son; blah blah Sharpton blah blah. Riddle me this: how many people died in Chicago yesterday (mostly black on black crime)? The media will leach onto a story that they feel will pluck at the heartstrings of white America, but they tend to ignore the overall fact that this was one of hundreds of cases that happen everyday in the U.S. And more importantly, how we can improve our neighborhoods so we don't have stories like this for the media to feed off of for weeks upon weeks?
