  5. Invitation You are cordially invited to The Meadows School’s Tenth Annual Meadows Invitational Tournament, October 26th – 28th, 2012. We will provide competition in Varsity Policy and Lincoln Douglas debate on the 2012 Policy and November/December LD topics. For Policy this is Resolved: the United States federal government should substantially increase its transportation infrastructure investment in the United States. 14. Registration on Joy of Tournaments will open on August 17th. The Meadows School Debate Tournament October 28 – 30, 2011 You are cordially invited to The Meadows School’s Ninth Annual Meadows Invitational Tournament, October 28th – 30th, 2011. We will provide competition in Varsity Policy and Lincoln Douglas debate on the 2011 and November/December topics. For Policy this is Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or development of space beyond the Earth’s mesosphere. Last year, Harvard-Westlake’s Jake Sonnenberg defeated College Preparatory School’s Sarah Sachs to win the Lincoln Douglas division, while Gulliver Prep AT defeated Greenhill PP to be named the policy champions. This year, Michael Bietz from The View From Tab and Scott Phillips and Bill Batterman from the 3NR will be recording a joint podcast for their websites, including comments and questions from the audience. We hope that you are able to attend and participate! THE TOURNAMENT: There is no entry deadline or entry limit in Policy. There is a four entry limit in LD initially, to allow more schools to participate. We will accept entries until we are full. We can accommodate up to approximately 56 teams and 76 LDers. Entry will be through the Joy of Tournaments site. Questions and hired judge requests must be sent to timalderete@yahoo.com. Directions, announcements and judging preference instructions will be sent out in the weeks prior to the tournament through Joy of Tournaments. Both Divisions will consist of six preliminary debates. We will break to at least Octofinals. Power matching in Policy will be based on Wins, High Low Points and Opponents Wins, Total Points and Judge Variance. Power matching in LD will be based on Wins, High Low Points and Opponents Wins, Total Points and Judge Variance, with a High High Round Three and High Low Rounds Four through Five. We will use side equalization in elimination rounds. We will never lag pair. We will never flip on stage for elimination rounds. Up to 16 teams/debaters with winning records will advance – we will never artificially limit Octofinals. We will always release printed copies of pairings, as well as provide electronic notifications through Joy of Tournaments. We will be using the Joy of Tournaments Warm Room feature, but will not be including speaker points. FEES: Fees for the tournament are $80 per policy team or $45 per Lincoln Douglas debater. Lunch on Friday, and dinner on Friday and Saturday will be included. Please make checks payable to Meadows Forensics. You may bring your payments to the tournament, or you may mail them in. There are no extra Late, School, or Drop Fees added on. JUDGING: • One judge is required for every one or two teams, or for every three LDers. • As our tournament attempts to provide national circuit level competition, we ask that all judges be experienced and qualified in their event, subject to our approval. Please do not make us ask you to replace your judge. • All Judges will be required to have a judging philosophy sheet available on http://judgephilosop...ikispaces.com/. • A limited number of hired judges will be available for $250 each. Please contact us at timalderete@yahoo.com ASAP if you need to hire judges. • All judges are committed one round beyond their school’s elimination. LODGING: We have secured a group rate of $45 plus tax for Thursday and $72/night for Friday and Saturday at The Santa Fe Station, which serves as the tournament casino/hotel. Please contact the reservations desk at (866) 767-7771 or Enrico at 866-767-7771, and identify yourself as attendees of the Meadows School group. Please make reservations soon, as last year the block of rooms did fill up long before the tournament. The block will expire Sept 27th. After that point it may become difficult to secure rooms given the Halloween weekend. The Santa Fe Station is a full service hotel and casino, with a number of 24 hour restaurants, a food court, buffets, a movie theatre and 24 hour bowling on site. More information can be viewed at http://www.santafest...nlasvegas.com/. DIRECTIONS The Meadows School is located on the Northwest side of Las Vegas, at 8601 Scholar Lane. Take 15 North past the Strip to 95 North. Take 95 North (to Reno) to the Second Rancho Exit (do NOT take the Rancho exit immediately after exiting 15.) To get to The Meadows School from the hotel, take 95 South to the Lake Mead exit. Go West on Lake Mead.
