Small School Starter Pack

Recommended Posts

Just realized I forgot to put strat notes in the file whoops - I'll get a doc for that up soon. In the meantime if anyone has any questions about the file, feel free to post them here!

I am just curious as to what the file is to be used for. It looks like some kind of K file but could you clarify what each argument is and in which situations to use them?

(and explain all the K language, because my simpleton mind cannot comprehend big words)

1AC: Let's do some politics!

1NC: But politics are terrible!

2AC: Yeah but if we don't politics then lots of bad people will politics instead and that makes politics bad!

2NC: But politics are already bad!

1AR: Great so then let's do some politics!

2NR: But politics are terrible!

2AR: Let's make politics great again!

So are they just generic K arguments to be ran against any particular K or are they for other situations?

Mostly generics for answering a kritikal position. The argument is essentially that when we don't engage institutions, some bad people like Trump take over and ultimately turns the K which means you can make a perm argument that is functionally "perm - do the alt through institutions", assuming your aff is in direction of the alt.

Yeah basically Nick and Ryan summed it up well enough. The idea behind Cede the Political is that when we vacate politics, the people we oppose seize it. A good example (and this may or may not actually be the exact frontline I have typed out as an o/v for my 1ARs) is "your radical rejection of the state and capitalism is all well and good in theory but in practice the fact is that by abandoning the state and it's power you leave a very handy-dandy government for the capitalists to grab and use to do whatever the hell they want." The last line of Zanotti sums up CtP perfectly - power is dangerous, but not inherently bad or good. Institutions are empty until people fill them up.

I'm gonna be posting a file with detailed analyses of each arg in the file sometime tomorrow, sorry for any confusion!

Though being from small school, can I add ev as well?

Of course! I come from a small school myself - this thread isn't just for big school debaters who are generous with backfiles. Think of it more as a place where everybody who isn't $$$ program (read: GHill lol) can come together and help each other out. I'll probably be posting comprehensive files pretty sporadically myself, maybe 1-2 a month, just because I want to make sure everything is as good as it can be, but if anyone wants to share good backfiles/core files by all means! And not just files either - if anybody wants to ask questions or get tips for how to deal with the issues of coming from a small program, this is the place to ask!

It seems more organized to do a direct download DropBox for the "starter pack" than files posted throughout the pages of a thread.

I agree with Ryan Maybe a mass file, for everyone,

also this is a big help for me, trying to get my school into the bigger level debate, Thank you very much,

I have included my theory file for anyones use, as i wish to give everyone a chance, as debate should be fair.

I really don't have much to contribute, but I would like to say thanks to AQuackDebater and Snowball for both this and the Daily Card. Getting files into hands of small schools really helps level the playing field a bit.

Dude of course! Its my pleasure. Like I said, I'm just trying to give everyone a chance. And don't worry about not having much - that's what this thread is aiming to rectify.

Yeah you right man. I'll set that up soon.

Anyways, it seems that FW has won, so later this week expect a big-ass file on how to make the game work. I'll have it up by Grapevine, for everyone going to that (wish I could be there myself but alas, no such luck).

EDUCATION OUTWEIGHS FAIRNESS - 3 WARRANTS

A - FAIRNESS IS JUST THE INTERNAL LINK TO EDUCATION - IT HAS NO INTRINSIC VALUE IN AND OF ITSELF SO IF I PROMOTE KNOWLEDGE THAT OUTWEIGHS

B - CONTEXT - DEBATE IS AN EDUCATIONAL FORUM - DESPITE ITS GAMELIKE STRUCTURE IT'S DESIGNED TO FACILITATE LEARNING AND TRANSFER OF INFORMATION - THE CONSTITUTIVE PURPOSE OF THE ACTIVITY DEFINES THE WAY YOU FRAME THE METADEBATE

C - PORTABLE SKILLS - I CAN ONLY TAKE EDUCATION OUT OF ROUND WITH ME, NOT FAIRNESS - PORTABLE SKILLS OUTWEIGH BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY REASON WE DO DEBATE

all LD theory bullshit aside, thanks! everything helps

This is one of the single best debate files I have ever seen, thank you.

I'm back baby

I've been meaning to distribute this specific file for a while - consider this my apology for being awol from Cross-X for so long. I posted this on another thread, but I wanted to put this here because I wanted to start this thread anyways.

This isn't everything I have on CtP (not even close), but it's a good baseline file. Hopefully this helps anyone who needs it.

Expect more files like this in the coming weeks - I'm assembling what I'd like to call a "Small School Starter Pack." I met a lot of debaters at the UTNIF camp (both in CX and LD) who came from similar situations I did as a debater, starting your own program or trying to make an underdeveloped one competitive, but I was fortunate to have a lot of help with that when I was at Kealing since I got that hella thicc prep out from LBJ-LASA - not everyone has a support network like that. Consider this my way of giving back to the community that has given me so much, and making it so that people who want to get into this activity have an easier time about it.

Don't expect much topic specific literature here for a couple reasons -

A - Snowball's already doing that with the Daily Card (and a fantastic job he's doing indeed)

B - I want this to be a place for good backfiles you can use for years to come, the kind of stuff that I've found small programs are in dire need of the most, on account of the fact that they don't have much prep-out from prior years.

C - I want this to work for both LDers and CXers (gotta look out for my own kind). I'll also be posting some LD-specific files from time to time.

Anyways, this is the first of three files I already plan to release - the other two are a Cap and FW masterfile. If you wanna request specific stuff, let me know! And if anyone wants to contribute, feel free to post stuff here, whether it's add-ons to some of my files, or completely different ones. I'm also probably gonna be writing lectures to put up here, so if you wanna help out with that hit me up! And feel free to let me know what all you guys think about this!

Cheers,

Patrick Fox

The Quack Debater

UPDATE 9/5/17 - New version of the CtP masterfile is up. Reorganized and with typed out strat notes.

Update 9/7/17 - FW file up

I am just curious as to what the file is to be used for. It looks like some kind of K file but could you clarify what each argument is and in which situations to use them?
