Worst mispronunciations of words you've ever heard?

Recommended Posts

Not a egregious error (I hear newscasters and members of Congress butcher both of these) but still irritating:

pronouncing "fiscal" as "fiz-i-cal"

pronouncing "introduction" as "in-ter-duk-shun"

One of my teammates can't pronounce authors' names correctly for the life of them.

So far I've heard

Gates and Hulu (like the website)-Gates and Helu

Krasswald-Kaltwasser (this REALLY fucked me up because it was one of our cards and I was looking for "Krasswald" for probably a minute of prep)

Figgleson-Fingleton (I think Figgleson was a character on some children's show at one point...)

Some among many.

I'm fairly good at spreading but whenever I try to say this word really fast it always comes out as Neolibblism.

I say "neoliberalism" once and then just abbreviate to "neolib" the rest of the time. Well, unless I have a lay judge. Then I'm usually going slowly enough to say "neoliberalism" without slurring.

pre-ecca-zit (prerequisite)

this kid said it probably a total of 15-20 times throughout the whole round; the judge made a point to correct him and make him say it right afterwards

reminences for "remittances."  Would be bad enough normally, but this was an Mexican Visas Aff that had a Remittances advantages.  Then the Neg team ran a Remittances DA, and used the same mispronunciation.  It was so annoying I jumped in after the 1NC to correct them before it distracted me from paying attention for the rest of the round.
