Worst mispronunciations of words you've ever heard?

Recommended Posts

1. Hej-MINnie (hegemony)

2. Peeda-joggy (pedagogy)

3. Pair-a-DIG-em (paradigm)

I wish I were kidding. It's hard to keep a straight face in rounds sometimes.

In-dij-u-ous (Indigenous). Combined with the team's bizarre definition of the term, the judges were starting to joke that maybe it was intentional and they coined a new word: Indiguous = People who consider themselves to be natives. For example, Elizabeth Warren, though an indiguous person, is not actually a member of an indigenous tribe).

One from my own team: Pharm-a-ku-tic-als (Pharmaceuticals).

Still gotta go with boner (Boehner)

How is this mispronounced? Pretty sure it is pronounced Boner

EDIT: The joke nobody is getting is that Boehner is, well, dick, and Boner is an apt name for him

"Mr. Camp," a reporter said, mistakenly referring to House Ways & Means Chair Dave Camp (R-MI), before correcting himself.

"It's Boner. Boner," the Speaker responded, to laughs.

Yep, Boehner himself said it.

I still don't know whether I'm pronouncing Deleuze and Guatarri right. Sometimes I try to adopt a French accent when saying their names, but I worry I'm just making things worse for myself.

Oh, I've been saying Day-lay-ooze and Goo-atari. Whoops.

I used to say the latter - which is only exacerbated by the echo chamber of debate. From academics in the field, my understanding is the anglicized version of the former is "Duh-lose" [the latter said like the opposite of win] and the latter is "Gwah-tari" [said like the game console Atari with a GW sound at the start]
