What disads /  types of negative arguments other than Stock Issues are being run at UIL? I hear it's a very lay style of debate.

Be ready with your DnG aff and bataille k on the neg ;)

but in all seriousness, they really want to know more about the aff, solvency debate is really key here, if you can explain the 1ac better than the aff can that puts you wayyyyy ahead

da - in terms of specific off case arguments id say your biggest friend here is the spending da, but not just like the generic you spend money thats bad kills econ, really get down to where their money is coming from, how much they need, how they get it, etc etc.

second best friend may be tradeoff its an old school argument as well

T- is acceptable but most will vote arbitrarily so go for it at your own risk

CP's - surprisingly not as popular, i thought they would be first time i did it, condo is bad, conflicting arguments is bad, topical is bad, pics are bad, id say case specific counter process is the best way to go

theory - eh, i think this one depends, but its more like if you're aff and the neg reads xo cp* and conflicting case positions then just point that out to the judge

*topical and pic and contradictory

k's - gtfo

all in all your best friend for this tournament will be the case debate, ideal 1nc for me against the oldest school of the oldest school, T, spending/tradeoff, case: each adv, solvency, solvency, solvency, and then when you run out of time at the bottom, talk a little bit more about their solvency

hope that helped - https://www.uiltexas.org/files/academics/speech/UIL_CXState2013_4A-5Aparadigms.pdf

p.s. first question of every cx: how much moneys do plan cost?

edit: by arbitrarily on T i mean, if its NIB and you go for T bcuz they concede your interp and competing interpretations, some judges will just say, but thats actually really topical (nib is essentially the topic plan) and vote aff

this one's not true!! this year i would say at least half the judges had at least 3 on kritiks (1-5 scale, 1 being unacceptable and 5 being acceptable)

i even had a judge most familiar with critical arguments

i would say if you are gonna run Ks pick one that's not too outlandish and that you can easily explain to someone who knows what Ks are but doesn't know a ton about them. dillon stuff comes to mind

there will always be the exception, but for the most part, 3 doesnt mean much, alot of the judges that put 3 still probably have no idea how to evaluate them

I don't know seeds in 4A but I know that LBJ HS is top seed. Other 4-0's include Whitehouse CF and Crosby GL. Looking at the pairing of rd 4 the winner Ennis AB v Wakeland DF has to be 4-0 as well. I believe that there are only those four 4-0's, could be wrong though.

Hendrickson is the top seed. I'm judging octs between Midway CS and Kingwood AD now. Midway is affirmative. 1AC is about to begin. I'll post pairings after the round when I get them.
