At Large Bid For Ld?

Do you need a bid to apply for an at large bid in LD? I know some events you dont but i dont know which ones.

In most cases, yes. There was a rather heated incident at the 2011 TOC where a particular student had a number of bid rounds, but claimed he had been racially discriminated against at tournaments, preventing him from bidding, and received an at large to the TOC without a bid.

 

For all practical purposes, I believe you do need one bid, or extremely extenuating circumstances

If I recall, this same student also ended up 4-3 the TOC as well.

Actually 6-2. His name is Jalon Alexander.

 

I doubt the TOC at-large committee would do something like this again, though, because there was so much backlash in response to this case. (See here)
