Concordia College Debate & Speech

Recommended Posts

Concordia College- Moorhead offers seniors a scholarship for Debate and Speech in the amount of $10,000 ($2,500 per year). This scholarship is given in addition to a variety of academic and need based scholarships and awards that make Concordia an affordable option for students. We think that Concordia’s program creates an excellent opportunity for students to continue their competitive interests after high school into college. Our travel schedule offers students the ability to compete in up to 8-10 tournaments per year depending on each student’s interest and commitment. Last year Concordia debaters won the National Debate Tournament (NDT) District IV tournament and Concordia speech students placed 14th in the overall sweepstakes rankings at the National Individual Events Tournament (NIET).

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have completed the application to the college. Our application is FREE and quick – we don’t require an essay.

The online application can be found at - http://www.cord.edu/Admissions/apply1.php

I just wanted to remind everyone that the speech and debate scholarship is due on Friday, December 28th. That's about 16 days.

However, One of the requirements for the scholarship is the student has to have their application to Concordia submitted. This shouldn't be too big of an obstacle because our application is FREE and relatively quick since it doesn't have an essay requirement. The application also requires a letter of recommendation, ACT/SAT scores, and a transcript. Students are likely safe putting off completing the scholarship application before winter winter break, but it could become much more difficult to have the requirements for the application to the college fulfilled without access to counselors over break.

I would really appreciate if you could forward this information onto any students that might be interested in our program. I think there are a lot of benefits to going to Concordia outside of debate as well (global studies programs, small class sizes, strong community involvement by the college, etc.).

If you have ANY questions, don't hesitate to send me an email at speech&debate@cord.edu ... Also, there will be 4 or 5 Concordia students at Blake if anyone would like to talk to us in person.
