Missouri State Hs Debate Tournament

Recommended Posts

Dear Coach,

You and your squad are cordially invited to attend the Missouri State Varsity & Novice

Debate Tournament on October 19-20, 2012. Our tournament will be debate only, but

Willard High School is in the metro area, and will have an IE-only tournament (for both

Open and Novice) on Saturday, October 20. Although policy will run both days, we plan

to run LD & PF without flighting to allow competitors to attend the Willard tournanent

and return Sat evening for elimination rounds. We hope teams who are able will support

both tournaments!

We will offer Open and Novice Policy Debate, and Open and Novice Lincoln-Douglas

Debate, and Open and Novice Public Forum. Laptop computers will be allowed for

flowing or evidence access in Policy Debate only. Although internet access during

rounds is prohibited, coaches may request temporary user ID’s for coaches and

debaters to use between rounds. We expect to provide two tables per room for our

competitors.

Entries must be received by Monday, October 15. Entries may be emailed to

ericmorris@missouristate.edu or faxed to (417) 836-4774 (c/o Dr. Eric Morris). Please

contact us ASAP to indicate if you expect to attend, so we can confirm if our room

reservations are sufficient. If out of state, we also need to submit your school to our state

activities association for approval. Should you have any questions, please free to contact

me at any of these:

Email: ericmorris@missouristate.edu or ermocito@gmail.com

Cell/Text: 417-496-7141

COM Dept Office 417-836-4423

If you are coming in from out of town, one option is the Clarion (3333 South Glenstone,

417-883-6550), which is the tournament hotel for our college tournament. Cindy Ebbert,

our contact there, can arrange the same rate for this tournament – roughly $65/night. The

Clarion is about 15 minutes from the campus.

I look forward to seeing you in October!

Sincerely,

Dr. Eric Morris

Asst Prof of Communication

Director of Forensics

Missouri State University

FWIW:

I thought this was a fantastic tournament.

Gloria Deo did a good job for such a small squad that competes only in speech, this is clearly from Eric Morris' doing and hard work to ensure rounds went smoothly and with little lag.

The judging pool for Policy was probably the best I've ever seen at a Missouri tournament without the problems that many Missouri tournaments have (turning away/neglecting to give ballots to experienced and qualified judges).

I'm positive we'll be going back next year.

Bravo Bears.
