Liquid Metal Batteries (Aff Idea)

Recommended Posts

First off, I'm not really planning on running this aff, because I like VMT, but I'm just throwing out an idea incase anyone likes it.

Here's some articles that may help:

http://www.technolog...liquid-battery/

http://alum.mit.edu/...-metal-battery/

http://phys.org/news...-batteries.html

http://www.greentech...-metal-battery/

http://gigaom.com/cl...-cars-the-grid/

http://www.forbes.co...les-make-sense/

http://www.governing...ctric-Cars.html

Plan would give a loan to private companies to mass produce the batteries. Money has gone into the project from some investors, but they still don't have enough to produce on the large scale. The batteries were invented at MIT, and are alot smaller, store alot more energy, they are cheaper to make, and the materials required are abundant. They have been building bigger and bigger versions of the battery, ranging from small ones perfect for cars to larger ones perfect for the grid.

And your advantages would look something like:

Econ

Warming

Tech Spur (?)

Not topical even if it is, it's effects topical, the results are based years after the implementation of the plan, not direct implementation

Not really effects topical... under the resolution you just have to increase investment. I could make a plan that invests a penny, then cuts a penny. You would never get any result from the original investment, but that wouldn't matter because it'd still be topical.

I may be completely mistaken, but I believe that the previous posters were referring to "transportation infrastructure". Even if the batteries are used in cars, that doesn't mean that their primary and/or sole purpose is for cars (nor transportation in general, for that matter). That's what makes it effects topical.

Just a quick note since I didn't want to put this in a new topic, but I was reading about how there's a shortage of road markings. Search (I used Bing) "road material shortage", and you should be able to find more. In my opinion, that would be a better, and definitely topical, small aff.

Plus cars aren't infrastructure anyway: Infrastructure is the "pipelines", it's the conduits that allow transportation to happen.

"Substantial" checks.
