Cross-Reading

Recommended Posts

skipping around a card and not reading all that's highlighted without telling anyone to make your opponents think you read more when you're just cutting off time. Most experienced opponents will catch you doing it.

No, if they are paper, you can stand behind them when they read and make sure they read all the highlighted(unless they say theyre cutting the card); Also, common sense helps, if a team is reading cards that take like 5 seconds, chances are either they're cross-reading or those cards don't have much warrants

Cross-reading is like any cheating in competitive sports. It results in a negative reputation among critics and debaters. It also results in a metaphorical astrix besides all of your so called wins.

Plus, in the context of the debate community....it strikes at what is the core of the community ethos....academic honesty.

But it doesn't count if you cross out what you failed to read before they see the text of the card. Or if you tell them what parts you skipped.
