nathan_debate 745 Report post Posted May 27, 2012 Anyone have nay theories why Kansas & Baltimore have been so successful at CFLs? Is this typical for Kansas to do so well at CFLs?
Nokumura 92 Report post Posted May 27, 2012 Anyone have nay theories why Kansas & Baltimore have been so successful at CFLs? Is this typical for Kansas to do so well at CFLs? I am probably biased, since I am a Kansas debater, but I think that there are two reasons: 1. CFL is one of the two national tournaments that the Kansas State High School Activities Association allows us to compete in. I think that this makes many teams unprepared to debate our schools because the arguments on our circuit develop differently due to our relative isolationism. 2. Most teams here are well adapted to both lay and speed/flow style debate and therefore do well at tournaments that are half-flow/half-lay. I believe that Kansas usually has around 5-ish teams break any given year. This year has been exceptionally good for us, i think. Nearly everyone in Kansas from Wichita and Kansas City broke if the above spreadsheet is accurate.
EmbraceTheSuffering 53 Report post Posted May 27, 2012 I dont know if this is true for other states but in Florida, policy teams don't generally go to CFL nats, we usually send just first time novices who auto qual 1. CFL is one of the two national tournaments that the Kansas State High School Activities Association allows us to compete in. I think that this makes many teams unprepared to debate our schools because the arguments on our circuit develop differently due to our relative isolationism. Considering this is one of the only options for travel tournaments in Kansas, they probably send their best teams in good numbers

djersen 173 Report post Posted May 29, 2012 The Notorious SFL! Wooooooooooooooooooo!!! Nice job on the Rick Flair Zaba! That is really the only reasonable response to such greatness. Maybe Matt K should start wearing a Rolex and driving Limos to tournaments.
Kenyon 59 Report post Posted May 30, 2012 Thanks for all the congratulations everybody. Being the #1 and #7 seed and winning the tournament back to back is a testament to how hard the SFL debaters work, despite the MANY obstacles put in their way, they always find a way to persevere. The Coalition is strong as ever and should all take pride in this belt..... See ya in Indy and at NDI "I'm here to speak on the squad... IE young money"
