Neg Strat For Ost Treaty Aff

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions on a neg strategy against an Aff that withdraws the USfg from article 2 of the OST. Advantages are like Property Rights = Individual Rights. Was thinking FX Topicality because it doesn't actually mandate exploration/development. Any suggestions would be appreciated although our judges don't really go for K's or CP's. thanks

16 minutes of T shells.

Definitely run T, but an OST DA would be good. They'll be prepared for it, but you might be able to do some neat stuff if they answer it poorly. Just to be clear: the OST DA says that the U.S. withdrawing from the OST leads to its collapse, leading to space weaponization, et cetera. The responses that are the best (or at least have the most literature) are Uniqueness arguments, such as arguing that China violated the OST when they blew up their satellite with an ASAT. If they Non-UQ the DA and say that the OST has already been broken and is therefore non-binding, you can concede that and use it to show that either A ) property rights already exist because the OST is defunct, or B ) it is empirically shown that property claims empirically won't happen post-plan.

Generics are good too: debris, ozone, possible a leadership turn. If they say "the Neg is using all generics!" concede that and use it as evidence of in-round education loss on the T flow.

I'm surprised that people are still running squirrelly cases like this at this point in the season, but they are generally not too hard to beat.
