Hello! The Harvard Debate Council seeks judges for the 38th Annual Harvard National Invitational Forensics Tournament, to be held February 18-20, 2012 (Presidents Day Weekend). Details about the tournament are available at http://www.joyoftournaments.com/ma/harvard/info.asp. Please check the schedule ( http://www.joyoftournaments.com/ma/harvard/info.asp?p=4 ) of the event you would like to judge to determine your availability prior to contacting us.

We seek judges for the following events:

(1) Policy / Team / Cross-Examination Debate.

This year, there will be two divisions: Varsity, with 7 preliminary rounds, and Junior Varsity with 6. To judge in this event, you must have participated in policy debate either as a competitor or a judge at the high school or college level, and be approved by the tournament directors. We will take into account which division you would like to judge, but final say over which division you are placed in is reserved to the tournament directors.

Compensation:

Base pay is $17.50/round for Varsity Policy, $20/round for JV Policy. Judges who commit to being available for all the rounds on Saturday and Sunday (i.e. either all 7 Varsity prelims or all 6 JV prelims plus JV Doubles on Sunday night) will be paid $150(var)/$160(JV). We have a special need for judging Monday morning for the Varsity Doubles/JV Octas, so judges who commit to being available for all of Saturday and Sunday plus the first elim Monday morning will be paid $200. All payment is on the condition that you show up on time for each of your rounds, fill in ballots correctly, hand ballots in promptly, and do not in otherwise impede the tournament’s administration.

If you are especially qualified and would like to judge elimination rounds on Monday, we may be able to work out a special compensation package for you.

(2) Lincoln Douglas Debate.

We offer 6 preliminary rounds of Varsity and JV LD on Saturday and Sunday, as well as the Triple Octafinals on Sunday evening. All judges in the LD tournament will be assigned based on a mutual preference system. Placement in Varsity or JV will be determined by the mutual preference rankings; which division you are placed in will be announced online prior to the tournament. The tournament directors require flexibility in assigning hired judges among the two divisions. We appreciate your understanding

Compensation is $20/round judged (One round consists of two flights). You must show up to pick up your ballot 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of each round you are judging. All payment is on the condition that you show up on time for each of your rounds, fill in ballots correctly, hand ballots in promptly, and do not in otherwise impede the tournament’s administration

(3) Public Forum Debate.

We offer 6 preliminary rounds of PF on Saturday and Sunday. We are hiring a limited number of PF judges. Compensation is $15/round judged. All payment is on the condition that you show up on time for each of your rounds, fill in ballots correctly, hand ballots in promptly, and do not in otherwise impede the tournament’s administration

HOW TO SIGN UP

If you are interested, first please consult the schedule for the event you are interested in judging. Then, please email us at harvardhsdebate@gmail.com with the following information:

Subject line: JUDGE FOR (event that you are interested in judging: CX, LD, PF)

1. Name

2. Email

3. Cell Phone Number (and carrier, in case we need to text you)

4. Event (CX, LD, PF). Please include which division you would prefer/are qualified to judge. We will place you in a division based on your qualifications and our judging needs.

5. Availability. Please consult schedule at http://www.joyoftournaments.com/ma/harvard/info.asp?p=4 . Note that each event has a different schedule, so you should put down which preliminary rounds for your preferred event you are available to judge. If you are available full days (Sat, Sun, Mon), you can list that instead of particular rounds.

6. Relevant experience (both high school and college participation and judging experience)

7. High schools you cannot judge due to conflicts.

Note: all LD and Policy judges must post their judge philosophies (including Name, affiliation, experience, and any other information the debaters need to know about you) tohttp://judgephilosophies.wikispaces.com/ as soon as you sign up. Failure to do so may result in reduced payment.

We will send confirmation emails upon receipt of your application, with more information to follow. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at harvardhsdebate@gmail.com . Also, please feel free to forward this email to any and all interested parties.

Thank you,

Harvard Debate Council

I need a full or half time Varsity Policy judge for Berkeley - I would like to hire someone local, to avoid transportation costs.

Thanks

The San Francisco Bay NFL District seeks well qualified policy debate judges for its qualifying debate tournament, to be held Saturday, March 10, at the College Preparatory School in Oakland. We're seeking good critics who have no prior or current coaching relationship with competing schools in our district (CPS, Head Royce, St. Vincent, James Logan, Lowell; judges affiliated with Peninsula or South Bay schools would be welcome). Please contact me at les_phillips98@yahoo.com

I'm looking to hire judges to cover our CX entries at NFL Nationals, June 11-14, in Indianapolis. My preference is for local judges or folks who will otherwise be in the area.

EDIT: All positions have been filled, thanks to those who replied.
