broken 136 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 Where is the best place to pay for good quality evidence with frequent updates? Don't. Stuff like a thursday file for big tournaments is ok and helps with small squads, but for a majority of your ev/strats you should cut it/compile it yourself you have the time it'll make you better at debate
The X Factor 497 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 I totally agree with the above poster, but just in case you decide to ignore that advice, a cautionary tale. Based on my experience, DO NOT use PlanetDebate for their files. Most of them are mistagged, and even after fixing the tags they're just bad cards that were falsely tagged as a (failed) attempt to make something coherent. I know it sounds harsh but I got a small file from them once just to see the kind of work they do and it was complete rubbish, and everyone else I know who tried the site had a similar experience. Really, you should be using the Open Evidence Project's files to start you off combined with some entirely self-made files, and as you start seeing what arguments are popular on your circuit you can cut new answers to certain arguments based on necessity. That way, by the end of the year you have some solid files enhanced with good answers to the more common arguments, and you know these arguments very well because you cut them. If you don't want to put in a whole ton of work, that's probably the most sensible way to go. 6
Lifeline 53 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 Planet Debate was only good for its politics updates, and now that Strachan provides updates for free, there is basically no use. Their arguments produced before camp can look enticing, but if you wait a few months you'll almost always have access to the same arguments through the open ev project. tl;dr no, unless someone's buying it for you. Chaos 2587 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 now that Strachan provides updates for free, there is basically no use. She single handedly took down the last refuge of a major business. That's some quality micropolitics. 5

Yeah, Planet Debate is pretty bad. Case in point, they once thought that I was a source worth carding. They quoted me (username not real name) citing posts I'd made on a forum. Worse, they mis-quoted and mis-attributed the posts anyway.
SDDebater 90 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 Yeah, PD is pretty bad. Case in point, they once thought that I was a source worth carding. They quoted me (username not real name) citing posts I'd made on a forum. Worse, they mis-quoted and mis-attributed the posts anyway. Link? I really have to see that. Dr. Fox On Socks 3928 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 Link? I really have to see that. November 2010 Planet Debate PF File (Pages 18-19): http://teacher.ocps.net/stan.banks/media/pfnovember%5B1%5D.pdf Posts they lifted those quotes from: http://forums.pfdebate.com/t922/#post13730 (Me, but attributed to "Fox on Sox" not "FoxOnSocks") http://forums.pfdebate.com/t922/#post13756 (Not me, but attributed to "Fox on Sox" in the file) http://forums.pfdebate.com/t922/#post13743 + http://forums.pfdebate.com/t922/#post13749 + http://forums.pfdebate.com/t922/#post13755 (Me plus two others, lumped into one card and attributed to "Fox on Sox") Conclusion, Planet Debate is a joke.

themaretsky 9 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 I am going to camp in July so I am sure I will get more than enough resources there. My coach is riding my ass to find a subscription, because this will be our school's second year with a program and it's first year with any kind of competitive policy teams. If you could like me to free evidence projects, that would be really sweet!

perboslice 4 Report post Posted December 5, 2011 you can try the CDE files my team buys them for cx every year. And while I don't necessarily use them, a lot of people on my team do. Although I have to agree with the people above open evidence is really your best bet along with doing the research and finding the evidence yourself
