What is framework?

Recommended Posts

Its the type of impacts the judge should pay attention to (policy vs. critical/representational/performative).

Its the type of arguments the judge should pay attention to (policy vs. critical/representational/performative).

It ultimately frames how the judge should make their decision with regard to the ballot.

If you read criticisms or answer criticisms you should learn more about framework (i suggest you check out the wiki for "framework" as well as the camp files on the open debate project on "framework")

Framework is almost like discussing the "rules of debate" (like Theory) but with the understanding of the fact that there are no rules and it's more of an argument that says "this is how we should debate, and what should matter"

Framework is the means by which you win an unwinnable round by claiming that the other team is cheating and fabricating examples to make yourself believable. It usually occurs when you realize that the other team is simply better debaters than you, and become desperate because you cannot debate on their level. However, it is also used on both sides to justify cheating in order to beat a team better than you by forcing them to debate arguments they are less familiar with.

what is "representational/performative" mean?

Remember that Representational and Performative are 2 different things.

Representations means the way that the Aff interprets a certain term/object/idea. Arguments that critique the Aff's idea or representation of a certain include the: Security K, Orientalism K, and (obviously) Reps K.

Lets use Orientalism as the argument. This may be how one structures their 1NC Shell:

1. Link: The Aff's idea of terrorism is rooted in a racist mindset that all Middle Eastern people are inherently violent.

2. Impact: Naming certain groups of people as "violent" or "terrorists" justifies inhumane actions like Genocide

3. Alternative: Reject the Aff in an effort to give up this Orientalist Mindset.

Performative im not as sure as much. That should be a whole other thread...
