Policy debate at Cornell

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

It's almost college admissions time and I encourage anyone interested in college policy debate to check out Cornell & our team.

Cornell has a nationally competitive debate program that attends a full range of national circuit & local tournaments, including Northwestern, Harvard, Wake Forest, the Cal swing, Kentucky, and the NDT & CEDA, in addition to a host of regional tournaments in the Northeast.

Cornell's program is also one of the largest in the Northeast and is regularly among the top-ranked CEDA schools in the country.

Please check out our brand new website -- http://www.cornellforensics.org

If you have any questions, please contact me (jpw97@cornell.edu) or our policy debate coach, Adam "Ace" Garen (cornelldebatecoach@gmail.com)

Thanks,

If I have a A- unweighted GPA and 4 years of debate experience, will that get me into Cornell?

That's awesome, did not know that Cornell had debate team. Im a junior right now, so i still have a year, but what's the main style of Cornell debate, more traditional or more kritical. And by chance, could you send a schedule of the tournaments the team goes to, to my email jnechlebaj@hotmail.com

There are a ton of factors that go into admissions decisions at Cornell and elsewhere.

I'd be happy to discuss applications with anyone who has questions about the process or would like advice about getting in to Cornell.

There are no argument limitations or restrictions on the team, and there is a huge range of "style" that we adopt. It is completely open to any type of debate. Our wiki page lists the arguments we've read so far this year.

There is a full schedule on our website: http://www.cornellforensics.org/?page_id=24

I've also sent this to your inbox.

For someone who does mostly Extemp due to the lack of a policy program, what opportunities are there?

There is a speech team under the same organization as policy debate, with separate coaching & travel.

Contact Chris Langone with questions -- cvl4@cornell.edu

Is Dr. Stepp still with the Cornell program?

She no longer coaches debate, but is still a faculty member at Cornell.

My son debates for Cornell and participates in speech and on the parli team.

I am THRILLED with his involvement and the way the whole program runs.

Spencer (my son) largely did extemp in high school and some public forum. He has found a home on the Cornell debate team. (he is at a tournament this weekend in fact)

I was very happy they afforded him to get into policy, a feat i never accomplished as his high school coach.

Much love to the whole staff there and Go Big Red!

Ah..she was a great person, and one of the people who made me want to become a coach. Glad to hear she is still at Cornell, sorry to hear she no longer coaches.
