2009 Fayette Classic (November 13-14)

Recommended Posts

Registration opened this morning. Last year we had 40 schools from 5 states join us.

Register early - we filled up mid-October last year.

The Fayette Classic was named a 2009-2010 National Individual Events Tournament of Champions Qualifier. We anticipate the top 3 in Duo Interp, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp, and Oratory will receive a bid to the NIETOC.

The Fayette Classic is also the only Georgia tournament to receive this classification. South Carolina is the only neighboring state with a bid tournament. This may mean a larger IE crowd than last year.

This should be the last update for a while:

Due to our recent designation of an Tournament of Champions qualifier in Individual Events, we have added a student housing option for out of state students.

However, we only have a limited number of spaces available and we will provide free housing on a first come, first serve basis for students. Please register early if you would like to make use of the housing option.

We hope to have all housing placements finalized by November 1, 2009. The earlier you get your requests in, the better the chance you will have of acquiring housing. All housing requests will be done through Joy of Tournaments. Any specific questions, requests, or concerns regarding housing must be directed to Jeffrey Miller at jmiller@gaforensics.com

We're already 1/3 full - so please enter as soon as possible so we can prepare - especially in Individual Events.

We're anticipating being the one of the largest PF, LD, and IE tournaments in the state.

Officially half full - I expect us to be the largest IE tournament in the state - already close to 20 individuals in each IE. Almost 20 PF teams, almost 20 LD already.

I would recommend registering soon - I know 3 or 4 more large teams left to register, once we hit our 65 room limit, we'll be forced to close.

I think I know of 3 schools left to register to get that up to 20. I think Quarters trophies will be given.

We're trying some new things at the Fayette Classic this year - more info to come this week - but they include:

- Releasing pairings for Round 4 on Friday night. We will post them online. There is no need for one person to have this information. In addition to the posting, I understand that not everyone has internet access, so I will have a phone set up that entrants can call and find out who they are debating and who is adjudicating.

- In an attempt to better the Fayette tournament, I've hired more judges than I needed to for the Varsity division and will offer MPJ. I know MPJ is not "new" but it is "new" for a tournament with less than 50 teams. We have 20 Varsity teams right now and 25 Varsity judges.

- Starting in either Round 3 or Round 4, each pairing will list the wins-loss record for each team in the Varsity and JV division. There is no reason to add "ghost tab" to some coaches to do list. I know teams create ghost tabs, which means other teams do not have this information. In an effort to level the playing field, becoming transparant on the pairings is the best way to increase the competitive edge. (We will also be posting this in Varsity LD).

Please let me know what you think about these projects- I know some will be controversial with coaches.
