Impacts to Ks

Recommended Posts

I've been told that every K needs to have an offensive impact [why the mindset, language, action, etc. is harmful] and those can take the form of extinction, nuclear war and others.

My question is this: is a case turn a legit impact to a K? As in, if aff utilizes rhetoric in their case that ultimately works against their case, would that be a K impact? Or would that argument be better as solvency?

case turns are actually a very common form of K impacting, although, if you are cutting a K then you would want more then just case turns, but they are generally the most strategic to have in the shell

Unless you have case D, or some type of impact-framework that excludes aff offense, case turns are pretty much neccessary to win. But you still should have an external impact that's seperate from the case.

Yeah, an external impact should usually take the form of some framework related argument. Nuclear war impacts are silly given that there isn't a unique internal that would actually cause nuclear war like a disad would have.

Not necessarily, take the Cap K for example. The neg can argue that capitalism is the root cause of the advantage areas and that capitalism ensures resource wars which go nuclear. Therefore the alternative solves case and prevents an external nuclear war.

What he was saying was that when you run this kinds of impacts, the question is of UQ and brink. Lets take your example into question:

Cap is in the SQ, so why haven't your impacts happen?

There have been some types of resource wars and other wars based off of Cap, why hasn't there been nukes flying yet?

It isn't that you can't run those types of impacts, its a question of what the strategic option of running them is, if any.
