Guardian_Angel 5 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 well i mean if u used the def for social service as social service - an organized activity to improve the condition of disadvantaged people in society couldnt u make an aff saying that all major companies have to bring there plants( ex. car companies etc.) back to the U.S. from other countries then we could give millions of poeple back jobs and bring money in for the U.S. just an idea
X Spike 489 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 no, it wouldn't be topical. The plan would be by-the-books effects topical and probably also violate "living in poverty" because not all people who worked at these companies would necessarily be poor. If you mandated they be poor, you would be extra-topical because the plank bringing back the companies would be non-topical independently, and everyone and their mother will kick your ass on the definition of social services because it's too broad, underlimits the topic, destroys topical brightline, etc... The plan would also have a huge backlash against businesses because most of them would just move their HQ out of the US and sell to us from another country. A lot of companies are doing so already. All the plan would do is scare away corporations, thus collapsing the economy.
nathan_debate 745 Report post Posted July 18, 2009 Also short term 1) economic isolation 2) perception of protectionism would be hard disads to beat. The Transportation Aff from CNDI (berkeley solves this in one respect)
