Attention - VHSL Coaches - Classic Policy Sacrificed on the Altar of Public For

Recommended Posts

The best justification for all three events is that Public Forum is not policy debate, and is not meant (ideally) to be judged by policy judges - it's a completely different form of debate event (for now, it's changing) which teaches completely different skills, and is intended to achieve different purposes.

It's like my analogy on the 400m and 800m - two running races, yes, very different in terms of what they actually are.

I've never heard of a state dropping an event - heck I think Texas has like a million events at their state tournament..there is no reason to drop this event.

in the jurassic period of the mid-90s, there was no classic/contemp split in virginia debate... there was just switch-side and four-person policy.

Wow, I'm old enough to have participated in this. Apparently I'm jurassic.

Here's a question though, does anyone know of all the policy debate leagues/hosts in Virginia? I'm aware of:

VSHL (3 tournaments)

WACFL (5 t + 1 qualifier) [Washington-Arlington, Northern Virginia / Maryland]

NFL (1 q)

Invitationals (GMU, JMU, Broad Run) (Is Pot Falls still around? SBHS?)

I know there are other --CFLs, I don't know how many or where they are.

the richmond diocese of the cfl (the rest of the state) runs a 5 tournament, 1 qualifier season, i believe, and the tidewater debate league has a 5 tournament season.
