CP: Condition the social service

Recommended Posts

The real-world debate between the right and left always comes down to 'should there be conditions on the services we offer'. As such, I think this will be another popular cp.

discuss.

The problem with politics on this is that I'd LOVE to see warranted and contextual evidence about why condition social services don't link, but regular social services do.

On top of that, as a judge, I'd want this to be fairly specific to the affirmative or they have the high ground in the debate.

It could be like, the republicans/ democrats wanted to make these changes to this social service program, by making these conditions apply to the cp it somehow maintains the balance of political capital, thus dodging the politics D/A.

Yes you are right it would need to be very specific , or you can just be really inventive and use something called a states cp instead.

I see this being most effective paired with an argument arguing that the price of the aff is unrealistic. Though a lot of debaters would disagree (don't give me neg rep, I promise I won't actually do this), I'd run this against health care with a Eugenics Good argument and say that we shouldn't give health care to those with horrible medical conditions.

This would logically have a spending net benefit as well.

It would probably make the GOP + moderates very happy (and some dems who want to maintain support among moderates at home)--so take less political capital.

I'm curious what Ks could be run with this...it seems to be both more suspicious of the poor and more controling and perhaps more Darwinian than just giving the services outright.

I guess dependency is a K that doesn't link to conditionality. And I guess the socialism bad K is a (comparative) net benefit of the c/p.

poverty discourse counter-ks hit this pretty hard

there was a wyman v. james aff being run on the public housing topic, if memory serves, which ran some pretty strong rhetoric of poverty cards. we ran it on the search/detain topic and it worked pretty well.
