omnomnomnom 947 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 that's elitist. it's an essay set to music. if the same essay were on nye's personal website or something you would be all up ons. the argument is made in an essay set to music, and you saying "song lyrics in general can't always be taken seriously" has nothing to do with this particular instance. i don't see how the format is in any way misleading - imteq is a highly political musician that uses his music to spread his viewpoints. have you ever even listened to imteq? the fact is, it's a true argument, and the warrants are there just as much as bearden 00 or any other big impact card. Zar_B 54 Report post Posted May 2, 2009 You're missing the point. even if the warrants/ arguments are true, the format that it's in is inherently misleading. Song lyrics in general can't always be taken seriously. They aren't published in essay/ book format, they don't have editors, they don't cite their information... it's just a guy's assertion. Debaters assert things/ cite people who assert things all the time, but the evidence can't be held to the same standard as a guy who has similar quals who also got his book published/ edited/ revised/ in writing format. The only way your "quals attack" has any relevancy, whatsoever, is if you bring up evidence with warrants that specifically contradict with Immortal Technique's, then maybe you could win the warrant based on the fact that your's is "peer-reviewed" (assuming it is, and the person writing it is more qualified than Technique, which might not be true). And even then, I think there's a legitimate argument to be made that Immortal Technique knows/understands a lot more about "poverty" than the majority of people writing books about it. It's one thing to see/analyze "poverty", it's another to understand it.

Bearden is not qualified at all. two paragraphs after the card, he says extinction inevitable is 2006 (go figure), advocates preemptive strikes on every country, AND got his doctorate from a diploma mill, IE he bought it. That's not the point he was making (I think). He is saying that the average impact card has fewer/as many warrants as Immortal Technique's songs, and citing one card as an example. It may have been a bad example, but the argument hasn't actually been addressed.
