Since when is philosophy evidence?

Recommended Posts

Many kritik cards are the opinion of a single person. According to American Family Physician, expert opinion is the lowest form of evidence ("C" level) - http://www.aafp.org/online/en/home/publications/journals/afp/afplevels.html .

How do you justify running a philosophical kritik?

Because the cards in your politics disad aren't someone else's opinion?

Well, I meant Zizek or Fear of Death-type cards.

Through warranted analysis and comparison. Just like every other argument.

Thomas doesn't even know what a critique is. You warrant your philosophy authors by reading that one card about dart-throwing monkeys. Oh wait... no that's a horrible idea.

First of all - you're using a medical journal to determine what evidence should be acceptable.

a) chances are, the K will have a nice indict against science/medicine

B) evidence for the medical arena are held to a different standard than facts/ideas for legislation/academics.

Second, The 'level a and b' forms of evidence are [un]controlled experimentation/trials - no one will have evidence on that because no one writes cards about debate tourneys AT debate tournesys. To hold evidence to that standard seems asinine. The affirmative evidence wouldn't meet that threshold as well.

third, the context of evidence level is for that specific article only, not meant to be modeled for other arenas of thought.

That article is talking specifically about evidence-based clinical reviews. Even it could be applied to other fields, it certainly could not be applied to philosophy, nor does it actually say what you claim. It does not say expert opinion is the lowest credibility, just that it is 3rd, this means, rather, that it is the 3rd most reliable. Now we look at the two above it, neither of which can be applied to questions of ontology. There is no lab-test to run on Nietzschean logic, this is nonsensical to attempt to apply to most kritiks. The second criteria, "Other evidence, such as high-quality, historical, uncontrolled studies, or well-designed epidemiological studies with compelling findings" is at the foundation of most kritiks, certainly historical studies. K's that are more political: Cap, Coersion, Statism, etc. all rely on historical accounts and other finding to back their claims. K's that are more aimed at ontological assumptions such as Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, etc. should be evaluated seperately, and carry within themselves their own justification for being valued.

As far as how we can justify it? How can you justify the assumptions you make in the framing of your plan? This is exactly what Kritiks are there for; to question your justification for trying to "do" what you do that links to the K. If you think there are no warrants in any philosophical argument, you are wrong and should be taken behind a factory and shot.

Definitely...

Stavrakakis writes really good links in terms of science which really jive on this years topic when people run those shitty global warming affs and claim science comes first. These arg's bite the links really hard...
