debate vocab

line by line means when debating when you flow the opposing team you go down line by line of evidence and refute each peace of evidence or group it together and refute it

cross apply when you straight turn a da and the neg drops it then you cross apply it to your advantages because its another thing your plan solves

"line-by-line" is a term usually used when giving a roadmap. it basically says that you're going to do down the flow and answer each argument the other team made (usually in order) with your own arguments (either analytics or reading new evidence)

"cross-apply" means to take an argument made on a different flow and put it onto a new flow or a new argument while doing line-by-line (the one you're using it in the context of). it saves you time because you don't have to re-make arguments

that cross apply definition is sketchy...cross applying something is simply pulling it across or bringing it back up in the debate but not having to fully discuss it or go over it again. you can cross apply more than simply a disadvantage. you can cross apply any argument, card, position.
