Extra-T Question

Recommended Posts

The extra topical portions of the plan can still be used as leverage against disads. Just because you get the CP doesn't mean they can't still say "we also do x,y,z" which means we don't link to your args.

Also, the neg is simply not prepared to debate all the possibilities. Theres plenty of possible extra-topical advocacies that would be useless on their own. The aff could just argue that the CP does nothing and that only when done with "x and y" (the other parts of the plan) will it be of any good.

PICs don't check back anything for several reasons:

-Unless the Neg is already defending unlimited conditional advocacies good, you can say that running that PIC would trade off with our ability to run another, better CP. Aff is in a double-bind: either they force us to run a shitty PIC that, for the reasons above, still might not work, or they are de facto defending unlimited neg conditional advocacies, counter-interp to say neg gets one alt and one CP and they have an uphill theory battle to win.

-Noob's point is really important. Any interactions between the topical and extra-topical parts of the plan mean that the CP wouldn't necessarily even solve the extra-topical advantages as well as the plan. Also, the aff can leverage the extra-T part of the plan to make the T part more effective (maybe giving the Prez a new pen improves the solvency of the Africa portion of the plan).

-Infinitely regressive: by this standard, the aff can say whatever the hell it wants so long as part of it is T and the neg can run a PIC. This is bad for a lot of reasons - you can literally just think up any abusive aff and their standard would probably allow it.

Also, if you're not reading a PIC in the round, you can just say PICs bad, if their interp forces the Neg to run PICs then that's another reason to reject.
