I want to go Ivy because I want to be someplace exclusive, a place where only the elite go. Its the place to make connections...you can't do that at Nebraska or Wayne State.

Bottomline, education is something that should be for those who will use it, and not just have it. There are lots of people in this country who hold college degrees but are the worst scum on this planet. And I think that schools with very high acceptance rates are a waste of money. I want exclusiveness.

Use is relative, and I can't possibly imagine a scenario where someone would refuse to use knowledge they've gained.

There are a variety of examples of successful free schools. The "freedom schools" set up by SNCC and CORE in the 60s to educate poor blacks in literacy and democracy, the "teach-ins" and free universities set up by others across the nation spawned a great number of classes with information one was (at the time) unlikely to find in the dollar colleges. The problem isn't that people are getting education they don't need or won't use, and that's hardly a "problem" at all even if it exists. The problem is many people need and want more education but cannot afford it.

You're right there are a lot of scum with degrees, a lot happen to be from Ivy schools. One needs only think of George W. Bush (Yale, and then Harvard!), Dick Cheney, Al "I dont recall" Gonzales, Ronald Reagan, Paul Wolfowitz, Bill OReilly (yes, a masters from Harvard's famous Kennedy School of Government!), Ann Coulter (law degree from Michigan!), Henry Kissinger (BA, MA, PHD, all from Harvard), Richard Nixon (Duke), etc., etc., etc. The function of the elite schools seems less to turn out good people; more like the multi-versity that bastard Clark Kerr wanted, a knowledge factory to turn the most obscene and degrading people of the country into it's professional and managerial class. I'll take my UNL education in American History and Ethnic Studies over that any day.

I RESENT THAT!

I can't imagine why. While governor of California there was an incident involving the kidnapping of Patti Hearst, a millionaire's daughter, by the Symbionese Liberation Army. The SLA demanded free food be given to the needy of California, which eventually was carried out. Reagan declared that he hoped those who got the food "got botulism" from it.

If it quacks like scum, er, I mean, a duck...

i dont think you can judge him purely based on a stupid mistake he made, im giving my opinion off what i thought he contributed to society. i dont have the inititiave to debate with you whether he was good or not, but you made your point above strongly, with or without reagan, that i need not delve into this any further. (ivy schools can turn out scum)

I forgot nobody with a history or ethnic studies degree has ever gotten a job or used their education in any variety of other ways. Oh wait, no, they actually have. You might have actually read some of their work already in school, assuming you read the books assigned to you in that non-exclusive public school.

and you can make the same argument for the 4 or 5 peole that you named for your shitty public midwestern school

So make the argument, substantiate your claim. If there's scum coming from my school on par with that emanating from the supposedly elite and intellectual schools I'm completely unaware of it.

FOR IMEDIATE RELEASE

Watertown, SD -- Great Plains Frontrunner Dexter F. Mondale (R-SD) responds to remarks by Communist RedandBlackRevolution!, "This Nebraskan comes from a University with one of the highest acceptance rates in the nation and thinks he can throw arguments out and expect them to have credability, well, I for one won't respond to someone who isn't from one of the more elite schools in this country - so this takes out mostly all of those other commies from Nebraska."

Mondale currently leads all potential moderators in the most recent Exit Poll, by a substantial margin. Mondale's campaign also indicates he has no relation to 1984 Failure Walter "Fritz" Mondale and his username was used to mock the Minnesotan.

"Even though he lost in 1984, he lost to one of the greatest Presidents in our history, one that put people like Alex Stamm in his place," claims Mondale.

To kill some time....

FOR IMEDIATE RELEASE

So you're just going to continue with that spelling error?

Watertown, SD -- Great Plains Frontrunner Dexter F. Mondale (R-SD) responds to remarks by Communist RedandBlackRevolution!,

This adjective would only be relevant if it truly described my moderation of the forum in the way you seem to want it described. My politics do indeed guide my moderation of the forum. However, anyone who has known me for some time knows I prefer the terms anarchist or libertarian socialist over communist due to the doctrinaire and orthodox connotations associated with communism since the time of Marx. In other words, rather than being the totalitarian of the forum (the idea you want to associate me with by denouncing me as communist), I run the forum in a very relaxed and free manner deleting and banning only the major disruptions and only with general consensus. Notice that typically people who run for mod in this forum announce they will run the forum like I did, meaning they approve of my long tenure as mod.

"This Nebraskan comes from a University with one of the highest acceptance rates in the nation [...]

Already proven wrong. Perhaps you subscribe to the George W. Bush "catapult the propaganda" philosophy by repeating untrue things over and over again until they seem true, but the rest of the forum respects honesty.

[...] and thinks he can throw arguments out and expect them to have credability, [...]

I don't even know what you're trying to say here. What makes arguments credible? Do you mean valid? How are my arguments not valid?

[...] well, I for one won't respond to someone who isn't from one of the more elite schools in this country - so this takes out mostly all of those other commies from Nebraska."

Elitism, McCarthyist slander, and dishonesty. Congratulations, you've summed up your campaign.

Mondale currently leads all potential moderators in the most recent Exit Poll, by a substantial margin.

One might be inclined to note the honest facts about the exit poll, that it was created by Fitz, that Fritz garnered a lot of votes suspiciously quickly, and that it is a secret exit poll meaning we can't actually verify whether Fritz's supporters (or supporter) are eligible to vote in GP or even whether they exist as separate people at all.

I'll be starting a new exit poll, which will actually be an exit poll (they are started after voting has begun). It will also be an open ballot and therefore verifiable. We'll see whose exit poll was the more honest following Kerpen's announcement of winners.

Because the word libertarian has a long history of association with socialist and anarchist ideas, dating at least to the early 19th century. Not every socialist is a stock adherent of the various Marx/Lenin/Trotsky/Stalin/Mao/etc sects. America actually has a long (and in my opinion, fascinating) history of leftist libertarians including the IWW, Lucy Parsons, Emma Goldman, Alexander Berkman, and the 60s "New Left" organizations like Students for a Democratic Society and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, right up to today with the "New SDS," Noam Chomsky, and Howard Zinn, etc.

The concept of libertarianism as capitalist is a relatively new 20th century phenomenon, and is mostly localized to the US and to a somewhat lesser extent the UK. The disagreement arises over different conceptions of freedom and cooperation, debates which have been carried out elsewhere.

you're too stupid to even buy a college degree, yet you have accomplished being the worst scum on the planet.

1. I don't see any proof of acceptance into an Ivy League school, not that I would care if I did.

2. Just because you can make it in doesn't mean you will succeed.

3. I go to a University with an even higher acceptance rate than UNL. Does that make me stupid? How many times have you been published?

4. I have acceptance letters from Harvard and Johns Hopkins. They are nothing special. In the end, they are worthless to me. The greater point here is that only certain types of education occur at these schools, not all of which are beneficial to a modern society.

5. Bottom line, think before you type. That is what I expect in any moderator. That is the mark of any good citizen, regardless of education.

I love how original you are with your comments.

You are not funny or witty, you go to Wayne State College. That is all that should be said, and now your going to be Great Plains Moderator, go tell all your friends you won some election on a Debate Forum.

GOOD JOB! I CAN TELL YOU'RE GONNA BE A LEADER SOME DAY!

A few rhetorical questions....

Aren't you the clown with a bunch of threads talking about ending the reign of moderator tyranny?

Isn't it you and your buddy using all the 300/Spartan rhetoric?

Aren't you the same guy who made a handful of fake accounts in order to try to win the election?

And now you're talking shit to Zack for taking the election too seriously...

Next off.... your name is "Dexter."
