Kids, stop complaining

Camp evidence trading has been going on since evidence has been produced electronically. All campers, staff, and directors know their evidence will be distributed and it isn't a big deal.

Camp evidence is low quality. The evidence that is roundwinning and original at the end of the year comes from your own research.

Evidence sharing is good. It lets people know what is being run, allows you to supplement your own files with needed cards, and helps smaller or otherwise disadvantaged squads have an easy evidence access point.

Even if it is not openly posted it will get to nearly all of the people who want it via aim, email, or some other mode of exchange. This just makes it easier.

Promotes equity in debate. If we all have an equal starting point, it lets kids that do their own hard work get further ahead, and those who don't do that hard work get what they deserve.

Violates no copyright laws - camp evidence is not privately owned nor is it copyrighted.

Violates nobodies hard work or money - the evidence is usually produced by a group of people, and their money wasn't spent just on the 3 files the kid produced while at camp - the money spent on camp goes for the instruction in terms of debate and general topic knowledge.

Evidence pools can still exist - get a group of 5 trusted kids that want a unique file and do your own work and don't have anyone trade it. Problem solved.

Evidence leaks are inevitable - people in the community have case lists, disclose arguments, and talk about unique positions that they see and collect cites to these positions if their good - the evidence will get out.

well said, if you don't want the evidence that you cut at camp shared with other people don't go to camp or keep all your hard work to yourself and face the wrath and ridicule of the lab leaders when you tell them you didn't turn in any cards because you don't want it shared online. other wise stop bitching about the fact that we live in an electronic age where all evidence is open to all.

Incorrect, camp files have been traded a lot longer than that. The only differences was you had to photocopy them and snail mail it.

There does seem to be something odd about the second CNDI file. I began downloading it more than an hour ago, and it is only 25% finished. Worse, it seems to have stalled out a few minutes ago...

Thanks for the correction. My young guns don't go back that far.

Do u realize camps usually charge money for their files and additionally ever think the people who produce these files at camp wouldnt want them shared so that they could have a strategic advantage next year? UNless you consulted the people who made each file I think its kind of wrong to just share it openly.

Well, the way these files got here is either people from the camp posted the link (I know for a fact this is the case with Iowa and MSDI, and it's likely the case with several others), or people from the camp unconditionally traded the evidence for some other evidence. In the first case, there's nothing wrong, and in the second case, the camper has already gotten their trades in before the camp gets posted here. I don't get why it's "wrong" anyway.

I think these files should only be traded sharing openly is completley not cool. It takes away from the work that people do for evidence pools and things. It allows people who do not even give their files to freely download any files. In my opinion it is giving evidence to people that do not deserve it. It isn't right to just freely give away these camps evidence that people worked on. There is my statement you can all say chill out all you want but really it is all of you that need to open your eyes and see what you are doing

It isn't about "deserving." Anyone who does policy debate "deserves" to have a look at camp files.

The link works just fine for me.

HOWEVER, the reason I took CNDI out of the OP was that someone PM'd me and said the CNDI threatened the campers not to put the evidence for free...they'd get blacklisted from big tournaments or something. I dunno if it's legit, but that's why, FYI.

you cant be blacklisted from circuit tornies, maybe, they wont let u go to the Berkeley Torni but they don't have any influence over other tornis, but i d/l CNDI before it got taken down so if someone wants to trade with me then send me a PM or e-mail.

Cameron

I'm willing to feed out as much positive rep as possible to the person/people who help me with this :)

I also have a Mac. When I visited the site, it would only facilitate downloading specific files from a camp one at a time. FTP sites are a little old-school, even for me, but if someone more familiar with that protocol could explain how to download more efficiently that would be helpful to many...
