Why does the newest generation of tidewater debaters suck so much at being active on cross-x?

HI, I actually don't know how to play that game. I'm old school - give me a dungeon master's guide, a monster manual, some graph paper, and the appropriate dice..who needs comptuers? LOL.

I'm sad though - this is the first time in a decade that I will not be at State Debate!!:( Someone will have to tell me all about it.

oliver, your twin is currently living in edinburgh airport. his hair is even exactly like yours. unless that is you. though i don't think you'd really care about northern ireland's world cup qualifier group as he seems to.

by living, i dont mean he's homeless, i think.

when is states?

We had REgionals yesterday but since I wasn't there I don't know who's coming. I know they had enough teams in Contemp and Classic to run a full 5 round tourney - my guess is you'll see TJ, Stone Bridge, Washington and Lee, and some other school - West Potomac or Chantilly at States...not sure though....

Those are some surprising results in Classic - neither Oakton or West Potomac has been to the State tourney in policy in a very long time....good job to both schools!!:) And congrats to TJ and Stone Bridge too. I'm sad Yorktown won't be along this trip, but it appears the Northern Region has some strong representation!

In a completey different note - for WACFL debaters - three of your alumn are currently meeting in the Doubles of the NDT. Mary Washington KS - Kevin Kalmeyer (Good Counsel) and Matt Struth (Stone Bridge) are meeting Whitman CS Nate Cohn (not from WACFL) and Daniel Straus (Yorktown) - this is, to the best of my knowledge, the first time that this has happened in an NDT elim round in a quite some time - perhaps the first time ever, but I'm not completely sure. This is a good day for Virginia/Maryland debate!

It's a rematch of the...uhmm..I think the octas round at Northwestern this past Spring, where Mary Wash picked up.....it is sad, but it is happy - it means that the League rebuilding effort that Mr. Richards and myself committed to a decade ago, is paying dividends - there were more WACFL alumn in the NDT this year, than in any previous year - and that makes me smile!!:)

Hi, sad (I mean, I have to stay loyal to Whitman) but good for Virginia debate in general, and good luck to Matt and Kevin in their remaining rounds - may they stay in for several more!!:)

preempt- (my name is niccolo and I am soooooo coooooool)

Why does kaitlyn still go on to these boards...just out of curiosity. I am going on because I have time to kill in the post-NDT phase.

Just to clarify...Out of D7, Mary Wash KS and Towson CL got to the quarterfinals of the National Debate Tournament. Towson JM dropped in the Double-Octs to Cal Berkeley BP. And one of the best debates I was privilaged enough of judging was NDT Round 7 between Towson CL on the aff vs Wake Forest GL on the neg. It is great to see that VA is being represented quite well through straus (he was wearing his patriot classic t-shirt!), matt and kevin.

Word on the street is that the TOC is coming up and States is as well. Who has qualified for either of those tournaments and if possible, when are the dates and does anyone need any judging taken care of? I might be able to help.

The results for states were as follows (I'm doing this from memory at a late hour, so I apologize if I get anything wrong):

AAA Contemporary:

Since there were only six teams in AAA contemporary (three from northern and three from eastern), there was a five round round-robin and no elimination rounds.

1st Place: Kempsville PR (Adora Parker and Samuel Ross)

2nd Place: Thomas Jefferson CK (Hannah Clark and Andre Kessler)

3rd Place: Cox BP (Oliver Brass and Andrew Peterson)

1st Speaker: Oliver Brass (Cox)

2nd Speaker: Adora Parker (Kempsville)

3rd Speaker: Hannah Clark (Thomas Jefferson)

AAA Classic:

I don't recall the prelim results off the top of my head, but

Semifinals: Princess Anne AL d. Oakton KT on a 2-1 (?)

Semifinals: Thomas Jefferson KW (aff) d. West Potomac FW on a 3-0

Finals: Princess Anne AL (neg) d. Thomas Jefferson KW on a 2-1

A & AA Contemporary

There were no elim rounds for A & AA contemporary either (it was a seven round round robin).

1st Place: Broad Run BB (Bobby Bobbitt and Mary Bobbitt)

2nd Place: Broad Run HM (Katherine Hayden and Scott Miles)

3rd Place: Blacksburg CK (Min Jin Chung and Esha Kapania)

1st Speaker: Mary Bobbitt (Broad Run)

2nd Speaker: Bobby Bobbitt (Broad Run)

3rd Speaker: Scott Miles (Broad Run)

Adding to Andre's post...

AAA Contemporary:

They only gave awards for the top three teams and speakers, but since the original post asked about all the TDL teams, I'm including those results as well.

1st Place: Kempsville PR (Adora Parker and Samuel Ross) 5-0

2nd Place: Thomas Jefferson CK (Hannah Clark and Andre Kessler) 3-2

3rd Place: Cox BP (Oliver Brass and Andrew Peterson) 2-3

4th Place: Princess Anne VW (Matt Veland and Katherine Williams) 2-3

1st Speaker: Oliver Brass (Cox) Woot! Oliver rocks!

2nd Speaker: Adora Parker (Kempsville) Woot! Perfect ranks!

3rd Speaker: Hannah Clark (Thomas Jefferson) Woot! We heart Hannah!

4th Speaker: Matt Veland (Princess Anne) Woot! Go Matt!

AAA Classic:

In prelims...

Princess Anne AL (Katlyn Alley and Alex Lichtenstein) 6-0, 1st seed

Princess Anne CH (Julie Coursen and Helen He) 3-3, did not advance

Western Branch HS (Jordan Hairr and Ketelynn Squicciarini) 3-3, did not advance

Semifinals: Princess Anne AL d. Oakton KT on a 2-1

Semifinals: Thomas Jefferson KW d. West Potomac FW on a 3-0

Finals: Princess Anne AL d. Thomas Jefferson KW on a 2-1

1st speaker: Julie Coursen (Princess Anne)

2nd speaker: Hussein Fahema (West Potomac)

3rd speaker: Alexandra Kralick (Oakton)

4th speaker: Katlyn Alley (Princess Anne)

AAA Lincoln-Douglas:

The L-D results weren't in my packet, but Mark Harris from First Colonial took first place. That's three years in a row for him!
